It's sad supporters groups have to go to these lengths to protect their stuff from greedy people in NYC.

In 2013, it's still not a rivalry cup....

Yeah.. Seems to be rather shoddily written. The reporter seems to not be aware that not only has MLS filed for a trademark on the Cascadia Cup, but on all of the rivalry cups. The only odd thing about the Cascadia Cup trademark is that it was filed in Canada and not the US, while the others were filed in the US.

"And the league doesn't want to see a corporate name in front of "Cascadia Cup" that doesn't appropriately represent MLS."

    What appropriately represents MLS?

    "The Elite Hunting Cascadia Cup"

    "The Weyland Corporation Cascadia Cup"

    "The Enron Cascadia Cup"

WAIT! I got it! "The Livestrong Cascadia Cup"!

cascadia teams should give MLS the rights to the name if they increase the number of away fans that can attend the matches.

Yeah, didn't they all meet a week ago to discuss things? I'm a little concerned that nothing has squeaked out from either party since.

well that isn't helping. a good example of how to do shite wrong with SGs .... good work Don.

an interesting point in the comments. how long before the league decides to trademark the various SG names (ECS, Timbers Army, Bara Brava, Section 8, etc), at least those that aren't already, for the same reasons of "we need to protect the names from 3rd party explotation and that's what we do"?

something to ponder. SGs better get on registering some TMs pretty darn quick.

Reading the comments from Garber's statement, it is a landslide against what the league is trying to do. You would think waving the white flag would be the intelligent thing here. Good god man, just walk away, so we can get with the business of playing the game.
Edit: I see a lot of Tifo fodder in the near future

    Attention Don Garber...
YOU ARE THE 3RD PARTY! Supporters are trying to protect themselves from you and MLS.
