Great, why don't you tell us something we didn't already know? New York City FC announce Yankee Stadium to be home field for 2015 season April 21, 2014 MLSsoccer staff MLSsoccer.com
[while not intending to defend the decision] I think MLS sees tremendous value in creating regional rivalries (exhibit A, the pacific northwest). My guess is that the awarding of recent franchises is influenced by the desire to create a regional cluster, rather than just throw a new club out there on it's own.
Not sure where to put this but something I noticed from twitter - NYC FC has nearly 59k followers before kicking a ball in anger while the nearly 2-decades old Revs have just over 35k. Even Chivas has 50k! Among MLS teams, only the sad Colorado Rapids have fewer followers (29k).
It's actually a pretty dumb article, written by a guy whose sole agenda is to bash MLS whenever possible. Here's a great response: http://www.thebluetestament.com/2014/4/21/5637408/a-response-to-deadspin-on-mls
I don't know if he bashes the league regularly, but in this case I agree with him. The league is going to be watered down, you're adding a lot more players over the next few years. We already see that most of the bottom players on rosters can't play, so instead ... we're going to add more of that level? I think Atlanta's a terrible pro sports town (same as Miami, which is just a terrible sports town). I already don't think that highly of their SG after what I've heard, they've already been banned from showing up at a few games, or something to that effect this year. The response statement you brought in has one statement I do agree with ...
MLS and the players union are negotiating a new CBA this offseason, correct? So before any of the new teams come in, the salary cap will likely be raised, resulting in higher quality foreign players coming in, and keeping the better american players here instead of Scandinavia.
I'm hoping between $4 and $5 million. Less than that and the level of play will remain choppy. More than that and we'll see a lot more teams like Portland where it's one American outside back and 10 furriners, meaning less opportunity for homegrown players.
Other than he name issue having the team located in Nassau, maybe on the Cross Island Expressway on the Belmont Park complex would be a great location
May as well call them the Long Island xyz - forget the rest of the NYC metro area caring much about that club. NYC is just as provincial as Bostonians; for NYC people, going to LI is no different than going allllllllll the way to RBA in Jersey. It's got to be in the city, on a platter, or it's just too much effort.
Looks like its curtains that come from the ends of the stadium up towards the middle, but basically the same idea. Also, the seats move back a bit
RBNY about to win their second straight? Up 3-0 on Houston with less than 10 minutes left. This win would put them at a higher PPG than the Revs are currently at.
So DCU is starting to put things together. 4-1 on league leaders FC Dallas, though Dallas has played down a man since the 37th minute. Espindola is tearing it up this season. Good pick up.
