1.) I received neither a federal loan nor federal grant. The post you originally responded to said quite explicitly that my parents and my scholarships were able to take care of my education, but that I'm in the top 5% of the country in terms of income so the fact that Mitt wants everybody to do it is just absurd. My parents barely got by sending us to college, and they saved up for it my entire life.

2.) You can insult me all you want, the fact of the matter is a school apparently thinks I'm intelligent enough to give me a free ride for the next five years. That too is not funded by any federal grant or loan.

 

Then again, when choosing among Kentuckians, that's a rather easy burden to meet.

 

My new school is not in Kentucky. None of the schools I got into are in Kentucky.

I'm sure it must piss you off most of all knowing that you're the smartest person in the world and the country you love so much is investing so much into somebody you unflinchingly hate.

The fact is I do subsidize student loans and grants and I don't subsidize Mitt Romney's bank accounts.

Social science graduate degrees aren't particularly expensive, since they don't require expensive facilities or materials. They're also not terribly expensive because graduate students are then used as cheap labor to actually teach courses and grade papers. So our country isn't investing very much in you - it's just using you as cheap labor to teach PoliSci 101 to kids fulfilling their general education requirements until it spits you out into the world as an unemployable and over-educated fool desperately hoping to land a teaching job at some private high school because a professor job is a pipe dream. So no, it doesn't piss me off in the slightest. In addition, I'd have to care to hate you (unflinchingly or otherwise), and I'm very much afraid I don't. I do deplore your pathetic lack of critical thinking, especially since it's married to a completely unmerited sense of intellectual superiority. However, if I hated everyone like that, I'd waste a lot more energy. How can I possibly hate someone who's so far beneath me intellectually that he desperately stalks me? That merely provokes pity.
In short, you can't imagine how little I care that a third rate university is willing to use you as cheap labor despite your severe intellectual limitations. I'd say I feel bad for the undergrads you'll be TAing, but then they should have gotten into a better school.

I put off paying for mine for over 10 years, but because of the employer I chose, in about 180 more small payments, the Gubmint will wipe mine out and make you make up the difference.
