Well, I could go on and on about this one. I will say that this is a big moment for me as I was 14 and just thought it was "magical". Saw game 6 a couple of nights before for my first live game and I couldnt sleep after it. Thrilling... Happy Father's day to my Dad-appreciate all the good times going to the games and him driving me and my buddies year after year and supporting our passion for the players and the league. You are the best Dad-love ya pal! 1st Half and Halftime-interviews with Zungul and Kentling at Half 2nd Half and Postgame celebration Enjoy! TEE
Thank you for uploading that game. I will be linking to it on "This Date in Sidekicks History" for June 20. Do you have Game 6 (today's "greatest Sidekicks game ever played" that you could upload?
Alan, I do not, but the DOC does, and I will try and acquire that from him and have it up before November
It was an unmagical night for me. I had gone to most of the Stars games up to that point in their history. I was ready for the victory. My buddies and I from school were sitting way up top on the end. With about 5 minutes to go I had the brilliant idea of going down below to watch the final minutes and be up close for the victory. The dome had vast standing areas up close. We went down to the floor with the lead and watched as Dallas tied it and subsequently won it. I am on this video but can't make myself out. We were right were the winning goal was scored. My buddy has a blue jacket on and we see him on Sportscenter when we get home. Lesson of youth was learned that day. The game is never over.
Tee, I know Ive asked before but cant remember the answer. Can you post any games from Milwaukee, when it was King and Noguera versus Hector and Zoran?
I always felt cheated that we didn't get to see this game live here in KC. I think ESPN carried one game from the championship series, but all they cared about during their broadcast was some stupid halftime contest sponsored by Volkswagen revolving around how many kids they could cram into a minivan. Even without the thrilling finish, it would've been nice of ESPN to air the entire series instead of only when it was convenient for them...
The Van Jam. Back when people didn't sue for everything. Can you imagine what a potential liability that promotion would be considered now?
Yes, the Van Jam. If memory serves, as the dumb kids were exiting the van, one of them blurted out, "Sh--!" on the air. Sadly, it was as if the soccer game was just a footnote to ESPN that night...
To be fair to ESPN, they DID have a contract to run 3 games of the Championship series. The problem was that the Tacoma-San Diego series took longer (in calendar days) than expected, and with the debut of Arena Football, ESPN had no choice but to run two of those games reserved for the Championship series as games from the Stars-San Diego instead.
Gosh that meddling Arenaball......I actually watched it back then, but I will never forget several MISL Fields got ruined one summer, because the arena just gave the turf to the Arena football teams and they painted yardlines all over it. I distinctly remember seeing Dallas' field in the fall of '90 looking like it had faded zebra striped on it. Now on the other hand I remember watching Dallas Texans (Arena Football) in 1990 and seeing Dallas Sidekicks down the middle of the field painted out in a darker shade of green then the turf was........ LA's in 88 was a mess.
Now that I go look back at the archives, another problem ESPN had was that the Tacoma Dome was booked for a dog show that could not be bumped, and Tacoma would also not allow the series format to be changed to allow the first two games to be played at Reunion.
Arena football was often the target of ridicule on "SportsCenter" back in those days too, as I recall...
