Regular season will run from Friday, November 2, 2012 through Sunday, March 3, 2013. I'll take the extra home date. But what are the motives behind the decision? Should we even try to speculate? A 26-game schedule does lend itself perfectly to a 10-team league with two divisions (4 games against division opponents = 16 games, 2 games against non-divisional opponents = 10 games). That's probably way too big of a leap to make over one change like this. Still, you gotta wonder what drove it. http://misl.uslsoccer.com/home/612415.html
That kinda stinks (I was hoping for more of a 16 or 18 home game season per team) but at least it's not a step backward for the league. Hopefully they can get this TV contract bit settled too...
If expansion is going to happen, it needs to be announced now, otherwise, its the same ole crap. Announce now, and SELL NOW. Really, it should have been done earlier if it was to happen...
Wow... let's assume for a moment that, before November 1, MISL has 10 teams ready to take the field (and 1st Mariner is only ONE of them)... that would mean that: 1-5: Baltimore (see above), Milwaukee, Rochester, Missouri and ("since I built it, we might as well play soccer in it") Wichita are all good to go... not a surprise. 6: Syracuse decides "double or nothing... we're back!" 7: Norfolk owner has excellent fire and (unrelated) theft insurance (or memory issues) 8: Chicago adds more colors to its logo (first B&W, then blue, then...), gets a lease, calls Art to coach the team... 9-10: LET THE SPECULATION BEGIN! Harrisburg, Dallas, St. Louis, Harrisburg, Dallas, St. Louis, and/or Harrisburg... and maybe Utica and/or Buffalo... dare I suggest GLENS FALLS?
Here is what I excpect , Chicago , Utica , and a team to be named later we will have balanced divisions this year Harrisburg , dallas , st louis will join the pasl pro
Who would Harrisburg play? The closest PASL-Pro teams are 10+ hours away in a motor vehicle. That location does not seem to work for players that are approaching soccer as an advocation and not a vocation. Every road game would require overnight stays or just a brutal travel schedule of travel, play and get back on the bus.
We don't have to speculate on the 7 existing teams. They are all back for next year. Your guess is as good as mine on expansion. Uttica is just a wish/rumor. I don't think there is any meat there. Chicago is, well, chicago, who the hell knows.
Most teams do stay overnight unless it's like San Diego going to Anaheim. But there are only 8 road games and you can play two games one one trip (like Cincinnati/Louisville), so 4-6 road trips would not be very taxing.
That's who I wanted coaching the Storm after Klopas...not Steve Morris. I think Art would be a great head coach and deserves a shot, if he wants it and if it is the right fit for him.
Then the campaign needs to start, here and now. Art would be FANTASTIC. If anyone affiliated with the Chicago Miskick is reading, Art can be reached via these boards, thru the Milwaukee Wave, or by various other means (outside chance of finding him cleaning up at a poker game at one of the I-65 truck stops between CHI and INDY).
When the I league came about Utica was close to joining in , so its not far fetched to see them join the misl , I would like to see st louis back in the misl
But, Your Honor, the guy in the silver jersey looks so INNOCENT. Besides, were Art questioned (at least in THIS context), surely it would be about suspicious behavior of one of the Pikuzinski or Di Nunzio brothers... or Steve Frick. (And, I apologize for calling Kenn "Shirley.")
With a 26 game schedule, it works out well for either an 8 and 10 team league. - For an 8 team league in two divisions 3H and 3A within division = 18 games. and H and A against the other division = 8 games for a total of 26. - For a 10 team league in two divisions 2H and 2A within division = 16 games. and H and A against the other division = 10 games for a total of 26. Wishful thinking, I know but what is the off-season for?
Can anyone post Steve Frick's wherabouts? Still trying to figure out he scored 12 goals against my Coventry HS team back in 1980. Perhaps because we sucked.
Rumored to have become a fireman... good for him if he did -- put all that testosterone and adrenaline to good use and to better our society. TRUE STORY: After he went off on Bill Maxwell, Billy's comment in the dressing room after the game: "You've GOT to get drug testing in this league!"
