No, I mean what does the Crew get? We're not transferring/selling him. We still hold his contract. Do we sue (or whatever) for breach of contract? What card do we hold that forces him to show up and play?
I agree. I also do not think or have confidence that we will have an adequate replacement for him either.
FIFA. This is one they do get exercised about. They may not step in right away (as this talk is normal in these situations and they prefer to let the sides work it out), but there's none of the nonsense that the IIHF allows.
And if he's prepared to walk away to get away from Bob, then he's probably ok with that. Go back and be a "coach" for UC for a year.....train everyday, get paid..... I see him as a very cerebral kind of guy that would make this choice vs. playing for Bob for a year.
If we would pay him, that would piss me off. I would dole out suspensions without pay if he doesn't show
You may be right about the latter. However, I'm still waiting until our window "in" opens and the European "in" window closes. There will be players who need to move and who did not. We might pick up a couple there.
And what does that say about Bob as a coach, that a guy is so adamant to not play for him that he's willing to give up the game for a year? I hope to God that HSG is watching.
We wouldn't pay him, what he was saying was UC would pay him as a coach for the year he'd stay fit with them but wouldn't play then they sign him when his contract is up.
Fifa says: Looks like he loses this season *and* at least 4 months of the next season at his new club *and* he would have to pay compensation to the Crew. But this is lawyerese....
I'd say about half the teams in this league would prefer our record over the last 5 years compared to their own. Maybe even two thirds of teams.
Yeah but I wasn't talking about record, just general shenanigans. Toronto pick a coach that can't coach them for perhaps up to half the season. Chivas will only take you if you're Mexican. Their level or ridiculousness leaves no room for anyone to notice our dysfunction.
Exactly. Over the past five years, if you weigh more recent seasons heavier, then yeah...it doesn't look good. If all five seasons are weighed about the same, then we *do* have a decent run...but the current trend isn't good. Apple stock (AAPL) has been well below $250 over the past five years and even over $700 at one point recently. However, over the past six months, it's gone from that $700 mark to the $504 it's currently at. It all depends how you look at something. Over the past five years, we have had a good team...but you're also including a lot of Sigi's roster in that. If you look just at what RW has done?
So we finished 10 or 11th depending on how you look at last year, and 9th place the year before. This put us with more points than 9 teams after regular season each of the past seasons. Not great, but better than almost half the rest of the league the past two years and when factoring in the previous 3, half of the league would prefer our last 5 years versus theirs.
