So, I for one am about done chewing on the Team Name/Jersey Design appetizer that has been out there for awhile and am ready for a bit more hearty fare. Negotiations are I'm sure on-going and the behind the scenes work continues, but the first frost of '05 has arrived and the plan is to be up and running by 2008.

At one point ParkEast land was going to be up for bid in November and with Turkey Day fast approaching I haven't heard any whispers about any new development plans. With a new owner, the Pabst site appears to be out of the picture and we are left with the three others areas that have received mentioned - ParkEast, Third Ward/Summerfest and the Valley. The last word we received was that a possibility still exists for the Park East even though resistance continues from the Department of City Development.

You would think that there are some deadlines waiting out there and MLS announced over the weekend that the buy in fee stands at $15 million and will rise "significantly" after December 31. I don't know if the Iron Horsies will be able to negotiate a better rate but that's the only date we have to work with at the moment.

The Redevelopment Authority has scheduled a Public Hearing on the Third Amendment to the Park East Redevelopment Plan on November 17, 2005.

The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee invited proposals for the purchase and development of a prime real estate parcel in the Park East Redevelopment Area. The property is located at the intersection of Water and Jefferson Streets and offers views of the Milwaukee River and downtown Milwaukee. For more information, read a news release on the proposal process.

For information on Milwaukee County's Park East development opportunities, see www.growmilwaukeecounty.com.

    this is all from http://www.mkedcd.org/parkeast/

so i am sure we will hear something about this site, which i think is the best out of the sites out there for a SSS in milwaukee. Lets hope it goes well

Early on in this thread we were discussing the merits of Milwaukee's downtown and whether an SSS would fit in the mix of what's going on there and whether a team would benefit by making itself a part of the increasing attractiveness of the area. Milwaukee's downtown still has some growing to do and we mentioned that there have been some very positive signs. Professsor Birch of the U. Of Pennsylvania was apparently reading our discussion and went ahead and did a full blown study:

Study analyses quality of urban living in 44 U.S. cities.

I have to question any study which says Minneapolis has a declining downtown and offers a more favorable rating to Milwaukee's downtown. The reality on thew ground won't back up that comparison.

It should be noted (and IS noted in the report) that the rankings are based on Census data leading up to the year 2000, so any demographic changes since then are not going to be represented in the results.

The reason for using "out-dated" information is because the information collected for the decennial Census at the beginning of each decade is more complete and accurate than the yearly estimates put out in the years between.
