Dang, you're right! Hope Eddie Gaven likes playing for Lhasa Apsa. But Bill Archer sound right, I just don't see the draft starting up. Call me a blind optimist.
You start a thread about the draft, because you were afraid of losing Adu? Besides being moronic, it's also insulting. I agree with Maxim. Close this thread now. Unless. . . .while were at it, Flannigan wants to come in and discuss why Iraq is the fault of Title-9
Why is this being discussed? The chances of there being a draft are so small that you shouldn't even be worrying about it. Face it people, countries like Iceland or Malta have better odds of winning a World Cup than the odds of a draft happening.
You're 95% right. A general draft will NOT happen, barring unforeseen events. (I mean, if China declares war on us or something equally far out.) But there's a decent chance that the gvt. will conscript some IRRs, and/or conscript people with language or computer skills. There's been solid reporting that we need more people with those skill sets. If someone happens to have those skills *and* is IRR....
"But there's a decent chance that the gvt. will conscript some IRRs, and/or conscript people with language or computer skills. My only evidence being that I am actually, for the next year, in the inactive reserves. While in the military I was a network administrator. When the war began people I knew were recalled to service, but none of them were "computer geeks". I also have language skills, but I should be safe unless we invade Moçambique. And if this does go through(less than 1% chance), Viva Mexico!
Yes, but you're missing an essential point: The Army is more than simply national service. For many, maybe a majority, of recruits it is a way to pay for college, gain experience in a variety of fields and, sometimes, create a good career. So for every "rich" (whatever that means) kid who you draft against his will, another kid who WANTED to join for the above reasons or more, gets shut out of the career and educational opportunities the draftee could have paid for himself. And in the bargain, you replace a kid who is motivated to serve with someone who doesn't want to be there. This makes some sort of sense to you?. In any case, Rangel does indeed suggest that the burden of military service, and casualties, is falling disproportionately on black people. The fact is that it's simply untrue, but that has never stopped him before. He, and others who want this question in the public realm, know full well that a) a draft is not needed b) a draft will not be enacted and c) even the military doesn't want it. It's sole purpose is to rile up a bunch of people into THINKING that a draft is being considered. It isn't, it won't be, and those who want to flog this thing solely for political purposes ought to be ashamed of themselves. Not much chance of that, either.
get ready kids, Uncle Sam wants you its just a matter of time, we don't have any replacements for the troops in Haiti, we are pulling out of the danger South Korea,, we need re-enforcement's in Iraq, its only a matter of time, just don't kid yourselves, the time is coming for the young men of our nation to serve with honor. Good luck guys,
