It'll just give a new meaning to "Super Draft"

There is no way this will actually happen though, will it?

In most countries you are required to do some sort of military or service for "the state". We're lucky that enough people volunteer to do military duty in this country to fight our wars--like 'em or not. There won't be a military draft any time soon unless a large nation attacks our borders.

There is no chance, and I mean no chance at all, that the draft will be reinstated.

The only people proposing this are people who want to scare people into thinking they'll be drafted. Well, them and Charlie Rangel, who wants people to believe that it's all a plot against blackpeople.

The military has hit and continues to hit, all their recruiting targets. There is no personnel shortfall, and none is projected. Reinlistment is also right on target, or ahead of projections.

What's more, this is not World War II, and you don't just give some guys 8 weeks of calisthenics and then hand them a rifle. It takes a good 18 months to two years to bring a specialist up to speed in a given role, which means that if the draft was reinstated tomorrow the first soldier would be ready to hit the field in 2006.

This is ludicrous, which is what one would expectfrom a moron like Frank Cunha, who has the intellect of a cantellope.

If a draft were implemented under existing guidelines, and the US called just 1% of draft-age males, that would be enough to create 10 new divisions, roughly the same number currently in Iraq. IMO, they would not draft anywhere near that many, but let's just assume 1%.

In other words, this would not impact MLS in a significant way. When one considers that a new draft would likely include women, and that MLS has MANY players over age 26, we would probably see one player get the call.

With the first pack of the "MLS Draft," the US Navy selects - Bobby Convey.

btw -- regarding Rangel's motives on this issue, I have not heard him say anything to suggest he believes the status quo is a "plot against black people".

He thinks military service and sacrifice should be shared by all, regardless of socio-economic class or gender, and the fact of the matter is, males from lower and lower-middle class families are disproportionately represented in the military. I personally see no problem with a draft in terms of fairness, assuming no loopholes, but I do question the impact on quality when people are forced to serve.

This proposed bill which has no chance og being passed has absolutely nothing with MLS. Maybe a mod could please close this thread because people obviously are having a hard time ignoring Frank's idiocy.
