Gent will now have a two legged playoff against either Cercle Brugge or Mons for a Europa League place in the 2nd qualifying round.
Some sad news for Stabaek - defender Tor Marius Gromstad, who was reported missing yesterday, was found dead today, apparently due to an accidental fall at a construction site.
There's speculation that he actually committed suicide (the police already said there was no indication of any criminal activity), but apparently the Norwegian press often won't report a suicide (they like to allude to the idea, rather than state it as fact from what I gather). Strange (and sad) situation all around.
RIP.... It all point in the direction of suicide.. Tor Marius Gromstad left home early in the morning, without his keys, Cell Phone or any credit cards or money at all, and was reported missing later the same day... I also read somewhere, that his parents had been worried about him for some time... then two days later he is found dead from an "accidental" fall at a nearby construction site ( The police rule out foul play) .
Gent win the 2nd leg 2-1 and this time qualify for Europe for real. Diskerud went the final 24 minutes.
Nice to hear he got some minutes in a key match. Bodes well for Gent valuing him and making the loan a transfer. Good Luck, Mix!!!
Wasn't a key match because of the result in the first leg. Gent might keep Mix because some of their midfielders are leaving.
If Mix is brought by Gent could it prevent him from earning a USMNT spot? Klinsmann, it appears, doesn't rate the Belgian league, as evident by Kljestan's snub(s). Actually, that may be a little harsh, it may not matter the league, he simply may not rate Kljestan. Nonetheless, I just want Mix to find a home where he can play and continue to improve thus earning him call ups.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Mix with the U-23s pretty much starting when he got loaned to Gent? That may have something to do with his lack of time
JK said he he was impressed by Mix. Kljestan just isn't good enough compared to what we have. I imagine Mxx could be sold for peanuts when you consider the current situation of his parent club. The Belgium league seems to develop very good midfielders.
I think Klinsmann's decision to omit Kljestan has more to do with Kljestan and the CM pool than anything else. The Belgian league is roughly on par with the Danish league and I'd take Anderlecht over Brøndby or Nordsjælland in a heartbeat. There's little point to focusing on club and league resume, though, when you can watch the player play, which is far more useful information. If Mix is good enough to help the team, he'll be called up. If he's not, he won't. And even if you do go by league/club resume, Belgium/Gent is a definite step up from Stabæk and the Eliteserien.
I think the Belgian league is better than the Danish league. There is a 5 point gap between them in the uefa standings which is quite a lot. The Belgian league is more comparable to Greece/Turkey/Ukraine. On topic Gent has decided NOT to keep Diskerud.
According to bshredder, the club has yet to make a decision. https://twitter.com/#!/BrianSciaretta/status/205279032005246978
...but there are a fair number of rumors going around. https://twitter.com/BelgoFoot/status/205303109478658048
Well, not that I wish anything bad on Stabaek, but I hope they can find a way for him to move onward and upward. Doesn't sound like they're in the financial position to keep him on their books. Sad story really.
