I thought you were by quoting my post and then saying "However, maybe bullying a Mexican U23 midfield doesn't make you a Bundesliga player." But if I mis-read that, my apologies.
It was apparent during the U-23 preparations, that the more Porter saw of Mix, the more he liked him. When Porter got the Portland job, I wondered whether he had liked him enough that he would reach out to see whether Mix had any interest. It speaks volumes that he has apparently done so. Porter's recognition of Mix's qualities increases my estimation of Porter as a coach.
There are two pretty big advantages to coming to MLS over a European league. First, he's going to get the opportunity to run the show in Portland. If he wants to be a "star" type player (in terms of his impact on the matches he plays, not so much his ability) then this is his chance to prove he can play that role. Second, he'll get chances to prove to Klinsmann that he should become a regular at the national team level, which means he'll get a chance to play in the 2014 World Cup. JK will be able to directly compare him to, say, Graham Zusi. If Mix outplays Zusi then he'll get caps. Both are advantages for his long term club career. I'm NOT saying he should come to MLS, I don't like writing posts like that. I'm just trying to put myself in his shoes.
Hey Mix!!! As a Timbers fan (and season ticket holder) I'm really hoping that the rumors are true and that you sign with PTFC. I have been following your career for years now, excited with the prospect of you signing with a great club in a top European league on your next contract. (And I've always enjoyed not only the content of your comments on this message board, but also the fact that you actually take the time to answer folks' questions and engage with your fans). But, wow, this would be deliriously shocking if you played for us! I don't know if you drink beer, but I'd love to share a couple with ya when you get here! RCTID
I agree with SuperDave in that this would give mix the opportunity to show Klinsmann what he's got against other MLS players vying for those last USMNT spots. + he's 22, if he has 2 good years in MLS he can go back abroad to a stronger league at 25. Portland will be fun and he'll be a big celebrity. Porter wasn't ready for the U23's but time will show that he is a very good coach and this move proves that
I think if Mix was to go anywhere in MLS, Portland would be the place to go. I was in Portland last month and got to visit some of the surrounding area. Oregon is really a beautiful state and the city of Portland is alot like where I live (Austin, TX) except not quite as good . If its as much like Austin as it seems to be it would be great. The town seems pretty young, hip and a good size. It would be a destination I would certainly look at moving too when I graduate college but the weather is kind of a drag (though living in Norway I'm sure Mix is used to cold and rainy) Cheers
I'd love to see Mix in the MLS! He'd be a rockstar there in Portland and it'd give us Mericans a chance to see him much more! The Timbers with Mix, Nagbe, Boyd, Alhassan, Ryan Johnson, Will Johnson, Zizzo. Now that would be an exciting team to watch. Get Adu (porter seemed to do pretty well with him) and that's a damn good playoff team IMO!
I am pretty sure that people here have given a lot more pros and cons on this issue than the player himself has contemplated.
The Timbers don't need Adu. They already have so many midfielders and forwards that half the players you mentioned probably won't even be starters. In fact, if Adu were on this team he might not be a starter either. What the Timbers need most right now are defenders, not more attacking players (especially after they add Mix).
Will be in La Jolla next week. You there? Wanna join us for some basket ball on Prospect Street or barefoot running on the beach. We will probably put in some laps at Belmont Park Swimming Pool as well while we are in the area. That closer? Up for some exercise + some guiding and laughs? (Isak, Jørgen and Kristian need to se how people go about staying fit California-Pacific-style). You should know I was ever so close to go play college soccer for Seamus McFadden at UofSD. Nice guy. If you know how to arrange a practice day up at their facilities, that would do wonders for us road-trippers.
What is highlighted in this map? Looks like A is the stadium, B might be the Lloyd Center, and C I have no idea (although it's 10 blocks from my house and there's a good liquor store right there).
My good buddy and a guy I grew up playing with is on the San Diego squad. Blake Milton.. it would be cool to hear you trained with the team!
@miklagard I just got new long sleeve Rose City Red shirts for myself, the wife and our 3 kids, my question is should we put #42 on them, or are you going to wear the #10 instead?
I'm confused. As a returning USMNT player...............Mix can't just sign with Portland because he wants to. He'd have to go thru the allocation process, right? And that would mean Toronto, not Portland. Or am I wrong? TFC can really screw with Portland if they pick Mix (assuming he comes to the states) and hold him for ransom like they did with Brian McBride. Also..............if he wants Mexican food he should be coming to FC Dallas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
