We are excited to announce that we will be holding a charity golf tournament on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Southers Marsh Golf Club in Plymouth, MA. This, our first ever and hopefully annual golf tournament, will benefit two very worthy causes near and dear to our hearts:

    The David Vanole Foundation
A former U.S. National Team goalkeeper and coach at the highest levels of the sport in the United States, David passed away on January 15, 2007 at the age of 43. In addition to being part of the U.S. National Team's 1990 FIFA World Cup team, Vanole started all three games for the United States at the 1998 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. David was most recently on the coaching staff of the New England Revolution, serving as Goalkeeping Coach. David’s family has set up a foundation in his name, the David Charles Vanole Foundation, with donations being used to establish a soccer scholarship fund.

    The Carrie Holmstrom Trust Fund
On April 28, 2006 Carrie Holmstrom, an all-star high school and club goalkeeper was involved in a horrible car accident. Her vehicle had burst into flames after striking a tree along a road in her hometown of Dartmouth, MA. Three brave men, risking their lives and suffering injuries of their own, pulled Carrie out of the wreck. Carrie was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital and was later treated at the Shriner's Burn Institute in Boston where she underwent multiple surgeries and treatments. Carrie was burned over 70 percent of her body. Doctors put her into a medically induced coma for three months and were forced to amputate both her legs below the knee and the fingers of her right hand. Carrie’s family, friends and NOVA SC teammates created The Carrie Holmstrom Trust Fund to aid Carrie in all of her future endeavors. Carrie is looking forward to graduating from Dartmouth High School, attending college and getting back on the pitch, coaching the game she loved so much.

Should you wish to join us for this event and lend your support to these two great causes, or should you have any questions about the tournament, please feel free visit our website for more information or contact us via email at golf@midnightriders.com

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Monty Rodrigues, President

Those are 2 great charities you chose. I don't golf myself but I plan on spreading the word to people I know.

    Very very cool.

Question: Is Dinner included in the cost of the foursome/individual golfer? I was a little confused looking at the form. I think so but not sure.

Also, what is the beer situation? Will it be included during the golfing, will there be a beer cart, can golfers bring their own cooler?

The buffet dinner IS included in the price of the foursome or individual registration!!

There will be a few beer carts rolling around the course where you can pick up your favorite brew of choice, for a nominal fee!

There will also be bottled water available at various locations free of charge.

Golfers are allowed to bring a cooler in their cart. However there is no outside alcoholic beverages allowed in those coolers! If Southers Marsh management see any forbidden items they will make you return it to your vehicle...

Before the mods jump in, I'll say no. It's been said in other threads that they've stickied too many threads.

Sticking it in the Supporters forum is a different story.

I'm going to try to get my law firm to be a sponsor. The Krafts are a big client so I think they'll do it even though this is not a Revs sponsored event.

Another question: what is the format of the tournament - best ball or scramble or some other format?

I know these are questions I will get from people I know are golfers and not recessarily Revs/soccer fans.

I am not enough of a golfer, but I'm pretty sure that it's best ball, since we need to keep the players going.

Trust me, I've played 18 holes in 6 hours. You don't want me to have to play every ball I shoot! ;)

    Mike, am I right?

    Yes. Best ball.

But each foursome has to play at least two tee shots from each player in their foursome...

To clarify, each player will tee off, then choose the best ball and each player will hit from that location and so on.....

However, you have to use at least two tee shots from each player in the foursome! So, if you happen to have a guy that can hit a 400yd drive straight down the fairway everytime you can't use his tee shot 18 times!!:D

Ha! I shoulda saw that coming!

BTW, we will have registration forms and letters available at the General Meeting on Saturday at the Sheraton in Braintree!

We need to get the volunteer board and others involved in securing sponsorships and raffle donations....Maybe we can have a "golf committee" meeting after our General Meeting....maybe even over at Joe's or Uno's!!
