Figured it was time for a new thread. Today's Herald had some interesting news. - Beckham and Claure toured SunLife and FIU Stadium - while at FIU, they got a full-court tour including meeting every possible politician and everyone at FIU. In addition Becks and Marco saw a formal proposal presentation from FIU. - Becks took a picture with fans! http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/06/01/3428007/soccer-star-david-beckham-tours.html#
Not unlikely to happen.. Perhaps not something the locals reflect on but Florida is actually a popular place for both European clubs and players to visit during breaks in the season, the season being cold and grey in most places. But from that to get a well supported team?
You do realize Orlando, Tampa and Ft Lauderdale are all in Florida and are well attended minor league teams, right? I appreciate new members but this just smacks of lack of research before posting.
I just noticed a certain scepticism among several MLS fans in regard to Florida..One of them even posted that the one thing we could learn from MLS was to never put a team in Florida. But perhaps they had their own agenda..
That last comment is perfect. That is almost the whole situation in a nutshell. There is hope for you. Yes Florida sports teams have struggled with attendance across the board. But in most cases the product was inferior. A well run MLS team was the potential to be a success even in Florida.
IMO, a couple or 3 teams could do well in Florida. The key is well run for all 2 or 3. Two cities already have a good rivalry going. Add one more and you have something that, if done right, could rival the Pacific NW. Throw in Atlanta and you may even get Striker Likers to support an MLS team in Miami just to defend an expanded version of "the Fort". MLB and the NFL blew it when they did not put the southeastern teams in the same league/conference. Even the NHL's realignment has the 2 Florida teams in a conference far removed geographically from their 6 conference foes. MLS could actually be the 1st to do it right.
Completely agree that MLB blew it. Who is responsible of the genius move of putting the Rays with the Yankees and Red Sox? Talk about dividing the fanbase.
I think that the 2 Florida teams came in at a time when putting them together would have given one league or the other 2 teams too many. Or something like that.
you should also read his post closely - a double negative equals positive. So "not unlikely to happen" means "likely to happen", although the poster admits later on that there could be challenges. Seems to me like that's a reasonable post for a newcomer to me.
I'm not certain what caused you not to read his post closely. Maybe because you were reading quickly.

Has anyone talked about using the old Miami Arena site for a new soccer stadium? I remember there was once talk of putting the Marlins new stadium there.....convenient to Metrorail and I-95.....and the new "All Aboard Florida" trains from Orlando to Miami will stop right by there too. I guess it's being used as a park for now.
I had a post about that specific site, even had a little drawing and explanation of why it would be a good fit, I think that would be the sickest place for a small 20,000 seat stadium, the thing is I think its owned by old dude who wants to sell the land for a museum or something like that, It is a park avey crappy one at best... I think if claure get a heads up about it im sure he can buy it off the old guy for a cheap amount.. Imagine a soccer stadium in downtown, would be match made in heaven with the metro right there and the highway, it would be the perfect place for an MLS franchise in Miami...
https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/stadium-locations-for-future-mls-sss.1202210/ Here is the link to that thread, don't mind the haters on the idea I knew it was a good spot for the game (and the stadium)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/17/convention-center-hotel-miami-arena-downtown_n_3292310.html I think its too late , it says some group bought it already..... too build that monster, maybe they can include a sss stsdium?
There are plans for that site already.... http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/03/14/3286651/gentings-new-vision-calls-for.html
Only 2 responses above, you can see that the Arena site is already spoken for. Lucho then asked about the Herald site. They are both spoken for.
Ok you guys, wait there might be a chance at this dwotown stadium... Go to this site: http://www.miamiworldcenter.com/ and proceed to masterplan if you look closely it seems like the Miami Arena is still in the picture, check it out.. Maybe there is a chance Claure can maybe buy that land and create a stadium right next to that monstrosity, and how sick would it look if u have an open view to the the new Miami World Center?
Check out as well the Overview you can clearly see it not included in the plans, just right next to it, a view from the stadium will be freaking beautiful... oh man.. How come they haven't talked about this site for possible SSS? it has everything that it needs, transportation is set, downtown venue, in the heart of Miami. and not to forget but that vie would be incredible, just how the Philly Union have there view of the bridge our can have the view of downtown area....
http://wlrn.org/post/old-miami-arena-site-gets-new-plans-heres-timeline-property Just kidding, I think there is no shot at that SSS, Alight I'm out lunch time over..
