With Beckham instead of Kenn Horrowitz they are already miles ahead. Btw anyone seen/heard from Claure recently? Will he be at the press conference?
And who's paying the "low millions"? My point was that it is neither cheap nor easy to add a pedestrian walkway to a bridge. Bridges are designed to distribute the weight of the structure itself and the occupants. Adding additional components can throw the balance off, which becomes expensive to mitigate. That was my point about the Bay bridge The west span was not replaced. They want to add a pedestrian path to merry up with the new east span. You would think it is pretty "straight forward" to add a bike path to an existing ginormous bridge. Nope. Changing the weight distribution is expensive and difficult. Insurmountable problem? Nope. But don't dismiss it as "no big deal". If that site is selected, and pedestrian access is an issue, fixing or retrofitting that bridge will be waaaay more of an issue than what you've dismissed. And cost is only one hurdle
I get playing "Sweet Dreams" and "When Tomorrow Comes" - can be appropriate in helping set the mood. But "Here Comes the Rain Again"? What are they doing, announcing a team in Miami that will immediately move to Seattle and become Seattle2?
And the website puts up the official story even before Beckham says anything...... http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...ls-expansion-option-potential-miami-franchise
After 13 seasons without an MLS team it's now official, MLS has returned to Miami...Miami is now officially the 22nd MLS (MLS22) team!
"Potentially," according to the league announcement: David Beckham exercises MLS expansion option on potential Miami franchise
Beckham, when discussing his partners in this ownership group, mentions Marcelo (Claure, likely) and obviously his partner Simon (Fuller).
Anything related to sports in the city of Miami*. Here's why: Miami Professional Sports Attendance (2013) - Heat: 19,767, 4th of 30, but also this: - Dolphins: 64,319, 21st of 32 - Panthers: 14,744, 27th of 30 - Marlins: 19,584, 29th of 30 The reason people get upset with Miami getting Beckham's MLS team is because we, as a small fan base, feel like new teams should go to cities, organizations, and fans that "deserve" it according to criteria beyond simply having the money for a franchise. Part of that has to do with the small American soccer community, part of it has to do with fans wanting to see MLS as a whole do well. Miami is a garbage sports city, and they have very little grassroots support for a club.
The Panthers and Marlins have been two of the most mismanaged teams in the US. People have a hard time making an emotional connection to team that never keeps a player more than a few months.
