    I forgot P.B.....ugh...

Houston is OK....but is not on par with San Diego...it does have a big city attitude...but it's a godawful place....Austin and Dallas are fun cities though...Dallas can be a creepy ghost town at times though.

Cali paisas are cooler than Texas paisas. I mean better bands and by and large cooler Hispanics than the ones in Texas who are a mix of chuntis and pendejetes that cut stars and dumb shit into their hair.

Ok... I will ask about the Universities in California (CalTech, Berkeley, UCSD, UCSF, UCLA) and I will ask about Houston (Rice) and about Australia/New Zeeland. Is Texas A&M University at College Station, worth asking about? I do not feel attracted, but I do not know much.

    lol don't go to A&M

It's a pretty good school academically, but its in the middle of nowhere and the students are weird.. it has a reputation of being more of a cult than a school

    A&M students ^

    Don't go to A&M

Ok, I will ask about Stanford as well. But my aim is not to get into a world-class research group, I want a decent/good research group and a nice place to stay, meet people, interesting project, experience slightly different culture, fine weather, see stuff in weekends and travel after the 14 weeks. I'm used to Eindhoven for god sake, I'm easy to impress.

With the economy, it might be cheaper to come to the US these days.

    $1 AUD = $1.03 USD

Who woulda thought? I remember it being 5:1 in 2000ish.

Do yourself a favor. Don't go anywhere in Texas. Trust me on this. UCSD is fine. Australia would be awesome too.

Why? Texas University system is second only to the UC system. Texas and California are better than many, many places around the world. All in all what matters most is the group you go with. If they are well know it doesn't matter where you go.

About Houston...No mames. Even Texans hate that cesspool. They built the city on a swamp. It's like New Orleans without the food, culture, and parties...why go. As far as Texas go to Texas or TAMU, both are flagship state universities. Texas is in Austin it is OK, it is a tech center now. TAMU is centrally located you are less than an hour away from Austin and Houston. Both universities are complementary to each other, what one is really good at, the other isn't. TAMU is cheap to live in, since it is not a large city, Austin is more pricey.

Overall, your first criteria is getting a good job after you graduate. For that go to the best most recognizable group. Everything else doesn't really matter, because it is only temporary.
