Couple this with a projected USA win over Panama (2-0 USA so far in 1st) and both of them are obliterating the competition.

Mexico dominated and deserved the victory based on ball possession. They had only 2-3 clear chances though.

I ma very proud of my team!

    We are an improved team.

    Congrats to Mexico

Even though Mexico didn't play their best football, Trinidad & Tobago put a great game, it's the best I have seen from T&T...Leo Benhaker has done a great job to that team...It's good to see CONCACAF teams improving...

As for Mexico, we missed Blanco and Marquez...Even though we dominated up in front we looked horrible...Kikin Fonseca and JP Rodriguez...
Not a good game for them...especially for Rodriguez I still don't know what Lavolpe sees in that guy, he doesn't deserve to be wearing the green jersey...I'm still waiting for Lavolpe to give us the pleasure to see Torrado play...

its been mentioned in several forums the poor quality of "the rest of CONCACAF" teams, even with the terrible game that Mexico show today, it was enough to beat T&T,I guess we go thru the same every four years, Mexico's uneven play, still good enough for three points,

    VERY IMPRESSED with T&T's showing.

Created a few chances on the counter-attack and played solidly defensively.

Mexico scored on a defensive lapse and a goalkeeping error (not saying they didn't deserve it) but i was sufficicently please that at no time were we well and truly opened up.

If the US beats Panama and Costa Rica-Guatemala end in a tie, i would feel all the more pleased.

Keep up the good work boys, not every team in Concacaf is good as Mexico.

You seem fairly new, but there's a rule about posting scores of other games in threads, as other people, like me, were planning on watching the delayed telecast wuithout spoilers. Please refrain in the future.

Why is it that when you guys don't defeat somebody by 3 or more goals, its a "terrible game" by Mexico. Could it be that T&T just played a solid tactical match and picked their spots for attack?

Anyway, good game to T&T, I like their chances of getting the playoff spot or even third if they continue to play the way they're playing.

TnT DIDplay a solid tactical game, and they DID pick their spots for attack...but had you watched the match aswell as having watched previous matches by the team along with club matches that show what they players can do coupled with the expectation we have of our team (more than a simple win) you'd see that mexico played a terrible game.

As I warned, this T&T team is getting better everyday!

    Tougher than expected
Ahead of their game in Monterrey Mexico could have been forgiven for expecting an easy ride against Trinidad and Tobago. After all, they had won the last three games between the sides on home soil, scoring 13 goals without reply.

As it turned out, the Caribbean side, coached by Leo Beenhakker, fought tooth and nail for every ball and made life very difficult for their hosts. The Dutch coach boasts inside knowledge of Mexican football having had a spell as coach of America and has instilled order and discipline into the Soca Warriors' ranks.

The absence of senior players Rafael Marquez, Pavel Pardo, Salvador Carmona and Cuauhtemoc Blanco was sorely felt by Ricardo Lavolpe's young team, only three of whom were over 25. Trinidad and Tobago's rigid tactical discipline prevented the Mexicans from settling into their usual fluid style of play and as a result, they struggled to create goalscoring opportunities.

In a tense first half, Mexico were unable to get a clear sight of goal until two minutes before the break when 21-year-old Alberto Medina managed to evade goalkeeper Kelvin Jack. Unfortunately he shot weakly with the goal at his mercy allowing giant defender Dennis Lawrence to clear off the line.

The second period followed a similar pattern, and in the end Mexico's goals came more through sheer force of will than anything else. The breakthrough arrived in the 65th minute when keeper Jack was unable to hold a fierce strike from Ramon Morales and Jared Borgetti, top scorer in the qualifying competition, was on hand for a simple tap-in. Mexico continued to make hard work of breaking down the T&T defence and only added a second goal in the dying moments of the match, when Luis Perez's long-range effort was spilled over the line by the luckless Jack.

Can it be that T&T is just NOT as easy as many believe?

We frustrated Mexico at every turn. How many teams can boast that? And in Mexico too?

We have a good chance of stealing third.

Mark my words. T&T continues to improve.

Well, Leo Beenhakker has done a good job, that's evident and I have no doubts that T&T will keep on improving. Good luck.

México's game yesterday was awful... one of the worse games I've seen them play; I just can't understand why is it that whenever they play against 'any' team that apparently does not represent real 'danger' they play like.. well, like they play yesterday.

BASTA YA DE CONFIARSE! de verdad que dan ganas de darles unos zapes a ver si así se quitan esa soberbia de encima.

I must have missed the announcement, when did FIFA add "style points" in the WCQ tables?

Looking at upcoming games, I don't see any reason T&T can't get fourth place. They're already tied on pts with Guatemala. They host Guate this next round. Their final game is at home to an already-qualified Mexico. Plus, Panama will already be eliminated by the time they visit there.

I bet Jamaica wishes they had hired a solid European coach. They could've used this kind of tactical savvy.
