If this kid is becoming the greatest German player to ever hit the pitch then he deserves his own thread!

The level of hype in the German media in the last few days has been excessive and unhealthy. I just hope that Mesut remains as he is, down to earth and humble, continues to work on his weaknesses and hence continues to improve. His potential is huge.

I also hope that he plans his career carefully and stays a few more years in Bremen, the ideal environment for a gifted young player like him to develop. He has a lot to learn still and he can learn all that best in Bremen, under Thomas Schaaf. He is a far more complete player now, after a year in Bremen, than he was when he first joined us.

If he remains as he is and makes the right career choices, sky is the limit.

yeah the hype in the media is absolutely crazy right now. I really hope this doesn't make him think he's better than he actually is.

If he starts to think that, then maybe someone can show him the Uefa Cup final in Istanbul :D

Mesut starts in Ger v Rus WMQ (October 10, 2009) and assists on the winning goal. To qoute the restaurant I'm sure Lukas P. and Miro K. are thinking, "I'm Lovin' It". So am I :)!

    Hello, my first post here:)
I saw Oezil wore number 17 which belonged to Merte in the Russia match. He said that was his favorite number. Anyone knows if the change would be permanent, or just because it was his birthday?

Interesting...I hadn't noticed til' you brought it up. Mertes is the number 17, you are correct. I checked in the DFB Mannschaft squad and Christian Gentner is also # 17 (could be old info?). I looked on the net for some more facts but haven't found a reference yet. Maybe some of our fully literate Germans can help out with a German media search to find your answer. Btw, welcome to SV Werder/BigSoccer Deamonpen; you just hooked up with a bunch of very cool people . Don't take my word for it...soon you will be saying the same thing.

I hate to think of him eventually leaving but how long would one think he will remain at Werder Bremen before he moves on.

Obviously they aren't the only club but I heard of the rumor of him going to Arsenal.

I am just amazed that people can get transfered and yet Werder Bremen are able to find youngsters to take over spots such as like they did after losing Diego.

It is possible (but not desirable) that he will move during the winter transfer period. If he does not extend his contract, he will be gone by the summer.

    So hopefully he extends.

There is no possibility of Özil leaving in the winter transfer period. Do you really believe that Schaaf and Allofs are this stupid? Werder will come far in the EL and BL this season, which will increase Özils value as well as his great performance at the upcoming World Cup. If he doesn´t extend his contract, what i believe, he will move next summer, but definitely not this winter.
And then there will be more teams in the bet for him, as a result of that we´ll get even more from selling him. Unfortunate but true.
