Aces does not play around. I think the TV deal had everything to do with this. Thanks to MM for his service. Some very good things happened on his watch. But perhaps some new blood will be a good thing.
A long time of service with the Crew. 3 SSs. 1 MLS Cup. 1 USOC. Some bright spots and some low points. But the TV deal and lying to fans sealed it for me. It was time for him to go. I thank him for his service and wish him well in the future.
TV deal obviously sealed his fate. Thanks to MM for 15 years of service, but it was time. He wasn't very well liked by at least two (that I know of) companies that are no longer sponsors. I wonder if this will bring them back on board.
WOW! The fans speak and AP listens. As harsh as I have been on MM, I do really appreciate his work over the years and wish him well. This was just a move that had to be made to take the club to MLS 3.0 levels.
That's the obvious place to go, especially considering the timing. But it could simply be another case of AP making changes to get his own people involved. I doubt we'll be told for sure, unfortunately. Because we're stuck with TWC whether McCullers is here or not. So even if it IS the TV deal that made this happen, Precourt isn't going to say that publicly and alienate the network/provider his team is on. Especially if they're still trying to tweak the deal.
Mark McCullers you are a really nice guy in person. I thank you for all that you have done for the Columbus Crew. I wish you the best. But it was time and I like hope!
Not surprised it happened. Precourt is building his club. The tv deal was MM's last straw, although I wonder what Precourt's involvement in the tv deal was? Time will tell, but so far Precourt has made some bold moves that seem to be paying off. Thanks to MM for his accomplishments and leadership....he did many things very well for many years.
I don't think so. Looking at the Crew twitter feed, one of the first quotes is Certainly sounds like he got canned. Generally "Parted ways with" is a euphemism for "We canned his ass....."
Well, when AP said his contract wouldn't be renewed, they figured, what is the point? Still, when you get fired, you typically don't stay on for another month. I believe the article said he'd still be here until April 30th. That's five weeks. A mutual agreement to part ways is an accurate description, in my book.
Always sorry to see a guy get the sack but this was inevitable and waiting was only going to prolong the discomfort for everyone concerned. Good luck to a good guy.
Awesome news, I really dont think anything he has done has been all that great so I dont have much praise for him. Most things fell into his lap, and the big issues he never handled well at all. I guess in his words we dont want to say he got fired or quit, he just isnt allowed back at work anymore.
AP was entertaining a number of guests down below me in the SW corner during the early portion of the second half. MM was lurking in the shadows throughout. It isn't nice the way all of this has played out towards the end, not unlike Bob's last few months. But all the same I wish MM the best in his future endeavors.
Sounds like severance to me. You think he'll be attending to his duties in those five weeks as a dead man walking, or will he be collecting a check while he looks for a new job?
