    From said article:

"Florida led the nation in job-cut announcements in May, with 12,874. Virginia followed with 11,277 announcements, Pennsylvania had 8,020, Illinois had 6,445 and Michigan had 4,683." Some pretty big states in the election, 3 in play states with lots of electoral votes (Yes, I include Virginia in this, Illinois is already a sold Dem).

That's a tough sell. All of those states have seen a dramatic drop in their unemployment rates since the high points of their recession:

    Florida
    Dec 2001 5.9%
    May 2004 4.6%

    Virginia
    Jul 2003 4.3%
    May 2004 3.4%

    Pennsylvania
    Feb 2003 5.9%
    May 2004 5.3%

    Illinois
    Sep 2003 6.9%
    May 2004 6.1%

    Michigan
    Dec 2003 7.6%
    May 2004 6.1%

That won't help Bush - they lost a 60,000 job, and now have a 6$/hr job.

Bush is done. Say hello to President Kerry.

    Sorry to hear that...
BTW, unemployment has not been lowered, remains at 5.6%, IINM
and small businesses find it more difficult not only to provide decent salaries, but increasingly to provide benefits (if they did at all)

I know i read a study somewhere on the avg income of the bottom 40% of the nation's workforce....and even adjusted for inflation, recalled that things were not better off by any means....

Everyone knows the Bush administration has serious credibility problems. I have to agree with ASF that we enjoying an up swing in our cyclical economy. No doubt it was helped by fiscal stimuli such as tax cuts and artificially low interest rates. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the tax cuts will end up having a negative rate of return. That is, they cost the US more than the wealth it produces. And I agree with Attacking Minded, it is up to the voters to figure out how and why the economy is where it is. Just like it is up to the voters to figure out how and why they get the fuel for their cars.

Jobs are definitely up in the Bay Area, particularly in engineering. That said, only a few California Republicans will vote for Bush in 2004, and they are all brain dead.

You got sources to back that up? Because 2/3rds of the jobs created in May were above the national average of $15/hr.

If mine's tough, so isn't yours. Unemployment stats do not count those who have begun so frustrated that they stopped looking, or have move on to other means.

I also don't think announcements of net job cuts in an alleged "rebound" is going to make voters in VA, MI, and FL too happy.

Job growth in May mostly were for temporary workers in sectors like health care, hotel, restaurant, retails. These are low paying jobs. These people are not going to get 15$/hr.

Higher pay manufacturing and construction jobs only added 32,000 jobs, big deal.

    So don't lie.
