Then its a matter of is there a team that is willing to give up a DP spot for him. That is currently unknown.

The fee is likely to be relatively small. Stoke did not pay a ton to get him, I think it was about $900k

Debatable. He could very well end up like Parkhurst and get a high salary that's below DP level.

Good. Too many young Yanks are squandering their talent and their development bouncing from team to team in Europe. That's not a popular opinion in some quarters. But it's damn true.

I think this is exactly what MLS is thinking right now. Its pretty low risk too. Its not like if they get bounced from the group people will go "Well I thought MLS was pretty good, but now I dont know." All upside, almost no downside.

I dunno, he had a good run in Turkey last year, and then was pretty much a key player for the US until an injury. Really since he has been back from the injury he has only sat for 2-3 months. I would think he would either want a short contract near the league max, or a long term DP contract.

There might be some negotiation leverage for MLS in that Edu needs to get fit for the WC.

At first I thought this was Canadian conspiracy, but now this is MLS conspiracy.

To me this reeks of FC Dallas.

After some of their off-season salary dumps (particularly DP David Ferreira), they have the salary cap space.

And Clavijo has mentioned in multiple places that they're targeting a central midfielder from abroad as a key pickup in the off-season. You're right. They still have a colossal hole there that lasted throughout last season.

So if Edu isn't a DP, what would FCD trade DC for him? #5 pick and a player?

Columbus Crew. Lots of cap space and needs a central midfielder.

Philly, SKC and Columbus were all in the Michael Bradley sweepstakes so I would guess they would be interested at the right price. Add in other teams that thought Bradley was too high for them. Might be 5-20 teams interested. Is he good enough to be a DP?

Goff just followed up . . Edu likely to be DP . . . this was about Philly clearing cap space not so much about the allocation order.

I like Jeff Parke, but just how much does he have left in his legs? Boswell/Parke pairing has to be one of slowest in MLS.

On other hand, anything than Carroll at DM is a massive upgrade for Philly

It cannot be much slower than when we had to start Boswell / Brunner in the playoffs this year due to injury. : )

I think this is similar to Adu's return to MLS.

Adu wasn't a DP in year one IIRC.

yeah. see now that makes no sense even for MLS which often makes no sense. if you want to say that DPs are exempt from the allocation order i get that ... they are special highly paid players and have the leverage to work out exactly where they want to sign ... but some DPs being subject to allocation and others not? that is all kinds of arbitrary and stupid .... portland fans are going to rightfully be pissed.
