I think he'll be the NT headcoach ONE day. And this is the only reason why he is still working as a sport director for the DFB, but he has done a great job so far. Champions of three different youth NT competitions, convinced Ozil to play for Germany. Not bad~

A smart individual for sure and can handle all these politics better than Loew.

Get ready for the "Dortmund favoritism" though. Good news is: At least we are going to see Hummels for the NT for sure.

Sammer's main competitors will be Hrubesch, perhaps Schuster, Daum and Klopp. Doubt Hrubesch is a good coach for the senior side though

I'd like it but let's be real here.

A NT coach will never be liked by everyone, yeah, maybe he would include Hummels but instead snub other players we'd like to see make the team.

I demand a coach with a proven long-term track record of making a first-league team overperform, that is make them finish higher on the table than what they looked like on paper.

I don't think such coaches are difficult to identify. Magath and Klopp are safe bets in Germany. Perhaps Hitzfeld would enjoy a brief stint with Germany to finish his career in style.

This Springer press campaign is ridiculous.

He was very stubborn in Dortmund with player selection and many fans were not that upset when he left despite winning us the BL title in 2002.

Tough one really. He has handled the bureaucratic and political aspects of the DFB very well so far but who knows how that would translate into coaching the NT.

i liked sammer a lot as a player, probably along with moeller and haessler my 3 favourites of the 1990s but i'm not really 100% sold on him as a coach...at least not yet anyway.
He did have some sucsess at dortmund but that 2002 title was pretty much given to dortmund by your standard leverkusen choke job.

overall seems like a bit of a gamble but so was the appointments of loew, klinsmann and beckenbauer who didnt bring outstanding resume's coming into the job....if the choice is sammer or jogi then i'd go with sammer but i'd take magath or heynkes among others before either of these guys

I'd be happier with magath, hitzfeld, heynckes and klopp before sammer. I think sammer should stay in his role because he's doing a fantastic job.

    Klopp before Sammer? Definitly not.

Also Sammer did change since his time as coach at Dortmund, he said so himself but he is also the youngest coach ever to have won the league.

I think he would be a good choice. He has the experience as player at the top level and at least some good experience as coach and stands like noone else for successfull football.
I mean I wouldn't mind someone like Magath or even Hiddink if we could get em but Sammer would be still the best choice as NT coach since Beckenbauer.

If a dutch can coach Bayern then its also ok for germany. :p

And I doubt that Magath is possible at all. He is still too ambitious on a club level to become NT coach. In an interview he also said that he might coach a NT one day but that at the current time its too early for him cause he needs/wants the daily work.

Heyckness or Schuster would both be better choices than Sammer imo.

    yes.
anyone who has got the winner's mentality is all right and most wanted now. besides, M. Sammer has already proved himself to be efficient for the coaching role.
or, Littbarski would be a great choice.

I think every coach dreams of leading their national team and you never know, maybe that might happen in my case one day
Pierre Littbarski on his ambition of coaching Germany.

    Seriously no!
There are so many better options out there...Many here think Löw is bad, well Sammer is a lot worse. The prospect of Sammer as NT coach is the worst part of the current DFB controversy...

O mann, no one can be worse than Löw!
Robert Enke was a favourite player of mine.
Anyway Urs Siegenthaler already has decided to leave Löws team to be a new HSV-Sportchef. Good decision.

I confess Matthias Sammer is my weakness...!

Magath would be a great club coach but not a NT coach. He has his style and this would be difficult to impart in 2 weeks training camps or in most cases lesser.
