All over Korean news right now, and new investigations are underway as we speak. From what I'm seeing, players from Gwangju FC, Gangwon FC and Daejeon Citizen are prime suspects (no offense to fans of the teams, but Korean news is constantly showing pixelated images of suspected players in Gwangju, Gangwon and Daejeon jerseys), seeing as low-level teams are less likely to be suspected of losing on purpose. I just wish the prosecutors will release the names of the two arrested players already, and expose the point-shaving scums for who they really are. Your thoughts on this matter? Is this K-League's darkest moment, and can we recover from this?
Seriously, who actually watches Rush and Cash Cup? As for the scandal...it's not going to ruin the league. The players involved did something disgraceful but the brokers who took advantage of the poor players should be ********ed more.
True, but regardless of how many (or how little) people watch Cup matches, match-fixing is still match-fixing. I pray that the K-League is not ruined or disgraced permanently by this scandal, but things are looking bad, in my humble opinion. I just hope we don't turn into another Italian Serie A, where CLUBS got involved on a massive scale, not just players. Both the players involved and the brokers who lead the scandal deserve to be punished. Being a footballer in a lesser team with a low salary is not a good excuse to rig games left and right, not even thinking about their fans and country.
Match-fixing and player bribery are two completely different things. The recent scandal is the latter. Anyways, I already mentioned this in the other thread, but this scandal could be blessing in disguise for both the K-League and Korean football as a whole depending on where we go from here. The league needs a structural overhaul. I'm hoping the league association gets to work and execute the plans they announced a few months ago within the next two years as they promised.
Takes a lot of wind out of Kleagues attendance sales though I bet. In these place which are already cruddy markets to begin with, how are these teams going to survive? Its a lot to ask. I know if I was a fan, Id be taking a break from "my team" for at least a season. Or I could possibly see fans actually coming back thinking the problem has been wiped out. But I dont think it would last because the mistrust and resentment would creep right back in. I knew when that goalie committed suicide the way he did under those circumstance, there had to be a pretty gnarley story to go along with the event. I mean that was a harsh suicide. Now we seem to be getting a clearer understanding of the story behind it. Crazy stuff. And if true, Kim DH is fukd for life. What a game changer for him.
Just making sure, but you do know that this isn't Kim Du-hyeon who played in England a couple of years ago, right?
Ow, it's snowball effect unfortunately. What do I think? Lifetime ban from any sport activities in Korea. It's time for prosecutors from an independent court to take over this case to help K League clarify the things around this case. Yesterday it was only a goalie and a midfielder, now we have more of them. I don't think that top teams would take part in that as they can win on the pitch by pure talent and their players are maybe more liable to bench warming after flops. It's hard not to assume that fans will turn away from K League. Sad moment for Korean football. It will take years to shake off after that.
i think there will be a stigma and the league may drop a bit. but we arent going to see the destruction of the best asian league over some rogue players and brokers. this is nothing on the level of the latests italian match fixing scandal that cost teams scudettos and league demotions.
Kim Dong Hyun is an idiot. He's going to be one of the most screwed from this mess, since he'll be prosecuted in the military courts. I read what Kim Byung Ji said a couple of hours ago. It's alarming. Reading btwn the lines, it seems like one of the players gets the money and it's split up btwn them to manipulate the results. It's going to be a massive problem. I guess a few of the players tried to influence Kim Byung Ji as well. Getting the GK in on a scheme makes sense. Here's the English version from AP... You can read it on Korean in pretty much any paper... http://www.google.com/hostednews/af...ocId=CNG.2cdeb9d5410637455ca6066244439cb6.1d1
Dont know about you, but to me Serie took an immediate dive in terms of its rank in world leagues. When I think about it now, its definitely tarnished. I certainly dont want any of our players playing in it. wow...good on Kim BJ
SBS / Naver pundit Park Moon-sung echoes my sentiments on major structural changes which includes contracting the league. http://news.naver.com/sports/index....&mod=read&office_id=208&article_id=0000000419
Good job by Kim Byung-Ji for staying loyal to his team, and advising his fellow teammates not to take part in the scam. Every time I see Kim Dong-Hyun's face on the news, it ticks me off beyond belief. The guy's in a military team for God's sake, and he pulls this kind of crap? I hope the military court drops the hammer on this scumbag and turns him into an outcast for good. I would say the same about the two arrested players, along with any other players and brokers who had an hand in this, but fortunately for them, they're not being tried by the military. I just wish the KFA sends some good prosecutors for the trials to come. Just glad the scandal's not on the Serie A level, otherwise, the K-League would really be screwed over.
A "former" KNT player is being targeted for match-fixing. He has played over 70 national team matches and has been an elite striker since his U-20 days. He has been match fixing since his days at Sangmu and is not part of the team to play Ghana or Serbia. The name that people are coming up with is...Choi Sung Kuk.
bet these dude were contemplating suicide. These guys are effed. Can you imagine with the goalie commiting suicide what mustve been going through their heads?
There is an article where it said that many K-league clubs got a blacklist of players who are involved in some sort of match-fixing. With the blacklist, the clubs gets rid of the player by transferring the player overseas or hedging (As soon as the reports of a Gwangju's goalkeeper being investigated for match-fixing came up, Gwangju's official site got rid of the player). One of those players involved (a famous one) begged the club saying give me one more chance. I have a feeling thats Choi Sung Kuk. We will know tomorrow if he plays or not. EDIT: Media speculation at the moment.
Are you saying Kleague owners knowingly were part of this? Doesnt matter if they werent taking bribes. This could get a lot uglier than what some are giving credit to.
These are media speculations at the moment though. If it is true, then there are few former K-leaguers (who now play in Chinese League) that have been in match-fixing ages ago. They only moved to China because the clubs forced them as a consequence of match fixing. But that is only media specualtion at the moment (which i forgot to add to my previous post). The word blacklist gets thrown around here to there alot of the times. Most of the times its just a rumour but at times, the blacklist does really exist.
whether or not they were doing that for the good of the league without going out with it, its definitely shady.
K:theCore... The clubs weren't part of any match fixing. So, even if they knew that players were match fixing after it happened then you can't really do much about it. They only had one option but to get rid of the player for the club's benefit.
