As long as the decision is made before the draw of the Europa League third round, any team can be replaced. Now, if they say that the third place team cannot participate in Europe, it has to be done before the draw of the Champions League playoff round. At that time, they may decide to offer it to the fourth place team if they haven't already played in Europa League yet. It's really at the discretion of the FIGC.

If they suspend a club from European play, it will almost certainly be before the end of the Euros.

wow they want a 1 year ban for players who didnt fix but didnt snitch? do they not know this is italy?

we really need to somehow stop with these scandals, i tell ppl i follow calcio and they say they can't watch it is all just mafia. maybe partly true at times, but it is definitely undermining our great football history.

This is such a shame for Serie A. Instead of things getting better they get worse. I know alot of people who USED to be italian football fans but they're not anymore cuz of all these scandals and BS. You cant force the bribers not to do it, but I wish the teams and players would stop it. Its not worth risking your name, and your hard work damaged just to get a call or 1 game going your way. I sure hope all this cracking down actually works and the players get scared from doing it.

Now whether they do it cuz they're FORCED to by mafia is something else. That needs to be addressed outside of football and becomes a criminal case. Players should be protected and feel safe not to deal with that stuff.

If Lazio & Napoli get deducted points, that means Roma will get a spot in Europe after all. Laziali & Napoli fans will hate that......

So, can we expect that the Europa League teams would then become Roma, Parma, and Catania? Italy has 3 Europa League spots. If Lazio, Napoli, and Udinese fall because of this, Bologna wouldn't be able to play in Europe neither, and that leaves Roma, Parma, and Catania.

This whole thing is nuts. It better not be swept under the rug. I'd honestly rather see all of these teams relegated for fixing matches, but I can't understand why that would never happen. You're putting the game in disrepute and you're making your league look horrible and crooked.

Well, what's better: Leaving Udinese in there despite them fixing matches, or putting in Inter who weren't suspected of fixing matches (at least last year, anyway)? As much as I hate them, if they haven't done anything wrong (last year), then they should be admitted.

I need to take a bath for saying that.

I'd rather have neither in there. I don't trust Inter and it wouldn't surprise me if they were found to be doing the same thing. The truth finally came out regarding Farceopoli. Inter was the worst violator, but oops there's a statute of limitations. What B.S.

Disgusting and disgraceful. Also, I don't believe Gillet for one second. In many of the videos of potential fixes that I've seen, he's looked the most guilty. Also, you can't fix a scoreline unless your goalie goes for it. They all should be banned from the game and thrown in prison. Every last one of these filthy scum.

As usual, few facts come out and yet, the papers already figure out the sentences. Are the clubs involved or the players? If it is players, then they should be punished. If it is management, then the club.

The club employs the players who fix games. The clubs should be punished. Match-fixing is not something that should be taken lightly. Italian football is widely considered to be a joke as it is. This scandal is like throwing fuel onto an already out-of-control fire.

When Farsopoli happened, everyone was screaming "Match-fixing! Relegation!" Now, though, that more than 20 teams are involved, no one is saying anything. There's no shouting. There should be. This is rotting the Italian game from the inside. Stands need to be taken, and clubs need to be punished for the actions of their players. When fans hold up a derogatory sign in the stadium, who pays? The clubs do. The clubs will pay for the actions of the fans, but not for their players? That's a joke. If you're found to have been fixing matches, then you should be relegated two levels IMMEDIATELY. It's been taken too lightly for too long. You want to have players that fix matches for bettors? Then you pay the ultimate price. This has gone on long enough. Arrests aren't enough to deter these actions. Punish the clubs as harshly as possible, and, believe me, this whole nonsense will end. Unless, of course, you like watching matches with 2/3 empty stadiums because the people refuse to believe what they're watching.

I say punish those who violated the law. No need for collateral damage. Punishing clubs will not deter players. Nor will it deter those in the betting rings. Punishing players may make others think twice before taking bribes.

No it won't. Punishing the clubs will put tremendous pressure on the clubs themselves to keep their employees/players in line. You don't think a club wouldn't think twice about taking on a player who has been rumored to fix matches, or was involved in some way in a fixing scandal? Does a club really want to take that risk? Clubs like Bari should be shitting themselves after all the fixing they've done, but only the players will take the fall. The club itself will see a points penalty, and that's it. How is that a punishment? Leniency is why this stuff keeps happening.

Juve was relegated in 2006. Why? Because there was a belief that matches were being fixed. Whether it's by a player or an executive with the club, what's the difference? They're both employed by the club. Juve, allegedly, took the fall for the actions of Luciano Moggi. Why shouldn't Bari take the fall for the actions of their players? You cut the head off of one, and another grows back. You kill it at the heart, and it stops beating. Clubs will NOT stand for match fixing if they're the ones being punished for the actions of their players. It'll clean up real fast. Unless, of course, the clubs themselves are in on the fixing, too, then they deserve their fates.

If the regulation of juve didnt put fear into owners and put the idea "no club is safe" nothing will... Go after the betters once they got the players there isnt much you can do about it. Kill the snake not the pray...

But if the club knows nothing of the players' actions, why should they be punished? What background check does a club make to ensure the player will not take a bribe? In these cases, did the club benefit by the result? From what I can tell, these have been independent actions of players looking to make some money. Punish those who took part.

If you go down TWO divisions, you'll think twice. I'm sure Di Laurentiis would be really happy having to go back down to Serie C1 because of the actions of a few of his players. Don't relegate one. Relegate them ALL, and if you're only left with 6 honest teams, then you've done the right thing to rid your league of the problem.

The biggest problem with this is image. Matches are fixed in England, but no one ever blinks an eye because they control image well. Same thing with Germany. Italians just have a reputation for being corrupt. It doesn't mean that it's right or it's true, but that's the rep Italy carries. You want to change your rep, then you need to do something extremely drastic. Say, "We've had enough, and each of these clubs will pay the ultimate price for the actions of their players." Of course, that will never happen, but it NEEDS to happen, and happen now because this is just the beginning. We can look forward to match fixing scandals every two years from here on out.
