This is what I think we'll see: ------------------------------------------Howard-------------------------------------- --------------------------------Cameron--------Boca--------------------------------- Cherundolo--------------------------------------------------------------F. Johnson ------------------------------------Beckerman------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------Torres--------------------------------- ---------------Jones--------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------Shea------------- -----------------------------------------Dempsey---------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------Herc-------------------------
Okay, I'm at home, but mark my words this will likely be the lineup. ----Dempsey-----------------------------------Altidore------------------------------------Gomez---- -------------------------------------Torres-----------------------Zusi----------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------Jones-------------------------------------------------- --Johnson------------------Bocanegra-------------------------Cameron--------------------Spector-- -------------------------------------------------Howard-------------------------------------------------
Relatively slow Beckerman and Torres as the spine protecting the backs and Jones misused on the right flank. Please no. Please. I see no need for Beckerman this match. Jones, Edu, or Williams to handle the #6 role. Torres has a 50-50 shot at starting, not because he's great but because of the dirth of options for midfielders with adequate ball control and passing skills.
I'd be surprised if Spector starts over Cherundolo. And as a pure defender on the right I'd maybe prefer Williams if Cherundolo were not able to play. But otherwise this is a coherent lineup with most players in logical roles. The key will be if Jones stays focussed and disciplined enough to actually play the #6 role, freeing Torres and Zusi to link with the forwards and keep the ball moving.
I agree with you on the speed issue.... but I have a feeling Beckerman will still most likely start. With that said, will Jamaica come out and try to 'slovenia' us (WC 2010) at home? Or will they play conservative, all guys behnid the ball, as we try to tear them to shreds?
Innnnnteresting, and a move that I hadn't thought of, actually. Secondly, if there's a game for Torres, I suspect that this one might be it. I think the Jamaicans are going to look to pack it in and counter quick, and Torres is one of those guys you want on the field if the Reggae Boyz are packing it in. Finally, I do definitely hope that points 6 and 7 are points that JK took home from our failure on Friday, and plans to actually address with appropriate changes. (As opposed to telling them to work on their fitness and mental attitude and trotting out the same damn 4DM lineup.) Personally, I'd prefer one more attacker in the lineup, but what you propose is an interesting such change.
jamaica only awy performance this round was 0-0 in antigua one the road here and in guat could see them in 3rd palce although the best antigua and lookfor felp
Enjoy! Gotta keep the Columbus streak alive. (And for goodness's sake, Columbus fans, please wear no yellow or black tonight!)
Here is what I would do but its not going to happen ---------------------Jozy------------------------- Shea---------Zusi----------Torres-------Demps ---------------------Jones------------------------- FJ---------Came-------------Edu----------Dolo The thoughts behind it: 1. It gives us the width that is desperately needed 2. It gives us a creative attacking player centrally in Zusi 3. Torres is the link to hold up the ball and spread it around I put Dempsey out wide because I want to see what Zusi can do in a central attacking role, He normally would not be the first choice in that role but witht he roster the way it is I think he is the best option to create in the middle of the field Zusi and Dempsey could easily be flipped or move Dempsey to Zusi's spot and bring on Gomez Or it could look this Shea-----Demps-Zusi--------Gomez and let Zusi link play and Demps be the creative attacker Point being I would come out and try to take the game right at Jamaica
No way Spector randomly starts in the midfield. Hasnt played there consistantly since he was at West Ham. Just sayin.. Idk if I would even want to see it. He just hasnt played it enough lately.
At Kingston we used a 4-3-2-1/4-3-1-2 flex ----------------------Howard----------------------------- Parkhurst----Cameron---Goodson-----Johnson-- ---------------------Beckerman-------------------------- --------------Jones------------Edu----------------------- -------------Gomez------------Dempsey----------------- -----------------------Altidore---------------------------- At Columbus we go to the Dempsey formation, 4-2-3-1 ----------------------Howard----------------------- Dolo-----------Cameron---Boca---------Johnson --------------Jones (8)----------Edu(6)------------ --Gomez-----------Dempsey---------------Shea--- -----------------------Altidore------------------------ Edu gets the nod at the #6. He won 5 tackles and lost only 1 in Kingston
my line-up: ------------------Altidore-------------------- --------Dempsey--------Gomez------------- -------------------Zusi------------------------ ----------Jones-----------Williams----------- Johnson-----------------------------Cherundolo ----------Bocanegra---Cameron------------- -------------------Howard--------------------- Bench: Guzan, Edu, Parkhurst, Spector, Torres, Shea, Boyd
what id like (crazy, i know) gomez - dempsey- boyd shea -----jones---- zusi fab --- cam - edu --- dolo but for real ------gomez shea -zusi- dempsey --torres - jones fab-cam-edu-dolo -need to control the game and posses -need to score early -if need a goal, Torres or Zusi out, Altidore or Boyd in (2 Forwards) -gomez - altidore shea -zusi- dempsey ------ jones fab-cam-edu-dolo -if need D, have Williams and Beckerman, for Torres or Zusi or Shea, even Bocanegra ------gomez shea -jones- dempsey --becker- williams fab-cam-edu-dolo
I also see this as the most likely formation. I can't see Klinsmann starting Zusi & Torres after neither of them played last Friday. This is pretty much the most experienced lineup in a formation that should work for us. Shea will be on to provide width & upgrade the attack, Beckerman will sit due to 1. his foul set up the first free kick goal, and 2. he deflected that same kick past TH by carelessly spreading his legs on the kick.
