I hope the Aussies can lift their heads from this, make up for Cahill and take on the Ghanaians and Serbians with gusto.

I am not hating at all, just saying the times are changing. If a country wants to offer a citizenship to a pro soccer player, why not? That is the way the modern world works.

Even regular people can find themselves one day living in one country and than another. Welcome to the 21st century.

Marin is one of the most inconsistent young players I've seen.

One game genius, next game invisible.

81' 4-0 Germany subs in #21 Marko Marin for #10 Lukas Podolski. Michael Bradley's (former) teammate gets a cap!! :D

There is not one player on the German NT who became German in order to play on the NT. Except for Cacau, they all grew up in Germany and Cacau decided to become German at a time when nobody would dream of calling him up. Back then, Klose, Podolski, Kuranyi and Gomez were all in great form. It was a big surprise to everybody (including Cacau) when he was first called up not too long ago...

The German soccer scouts must have been clairvoyants then.
The parents of Klose emigrated to Germany when he was 8 years old. The parents of Podolski when he was 2.

You are well behind the times. This type of behavior has been occuring for decades, if not longer. Even in terms of soccer, this has been happening since the first or second WC. IIRC, Italy has several Argentina-born players in 1938.

    Re: Match 8 | Germany vs. Australia | June 13th | Match Thread [R]

It's been going on since the very first World Cup. Try googling the Argentine born Italians who played for Italy during the 1930s.

Joe Gaetjens, the guy who scored the game winner in the USA vs England 1950 World Cup game was born in Haiti.

You're factually wrong if you think that foreign born players in international soccer teams is something new.

Cacau came on when the match was decided, 3-0 and Oz one man down, so he made no substantial difference.

This may be the case, but you can also understand the draw that the economic German magnet can have an an aspiring youth in that region.

I am sure that there is scouting involved and various other incentives that can easily make a promising player grow up German.

Like I said, welcome to the 21st century and the big business of sport.

(Your team shows amazing cultural flavours, but I know that getting a German passport is not an easy thing. This representations only seems to be prevalent in soccer not other parts of German society.)
