Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread He was a midget then Now he's growin' up and has shaped his football expertise.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Paradoxically, Ballack's injury turned out to be a blessing for the Germans. Their game is now more balanced and harder to figure out for other teams as it became less predictable. Just like Ghana without Essien though he has a different position on the field. I don't believe in creating one-leader-teams in contemporary football. If Messi has a bad day or is successfully covered by the rivals Argentina's whole game plan is ruined. Along with their poor tactics and defense that's the main reason Germans will be the favorites of this fixture.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Did he pick the winner for this match yet?
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Yes, apparently it's going to be a tight match though... http://www.spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/0,1518,703609,00.html
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread I agree, it will be a tight match, but i do give this one to the Germans. I love the way they play fussball, i've been a fan since i was a kid. Eventhough im latino, i've always rooted for the Germans, their football is fast, quick touches and they always shooting at the goal. DEUTSCHLAND WIRD ARGENTINIEN SCHLAGEN 2-1
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Looks like the discussion here mirrors what the prediction models tell us: it's too close to call: http://www.soccerquantified.com/pro...rldcupquarterfinalspredictionsacautionarytale though Nate Silver gives it to Argentina, it seems: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/12/world-cup-2010-advancement.html
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread sorry if this has been asked before, but which team is considered the home team for this game? if we go by the way the table is arranged, it's argentina. just wondering so i can know who will wear what shirt.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread I will wear my Germany shirt for this game.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread I think you're right. Argentina is home team on my cup map. So I guess, Germany will play in their black shirts.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Germany and Argentina have played 5 times, right? in the world cup finals? But I think the history has been pretty lopsided, with Germany winning 3, Argentina 1, and 1 draw. And who would you have your money on if that one-draw had been in the knockout rounds? Pretty one-sided "rivalry". Their is some good news for the Argentines is if they can beat Germany, though: the only time they did it, they went on to win the whole thing. The bad news is this rivalry could easily be considered 4-1 against them.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Mon the Deutchland! ...whoops how did I stumble in here! :S
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Thats not such a shock since their only win came in the WC1986 final.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Argentina wins 2-0. Germany matches up much better against non-offensive teams (like England). Argentina has problems against attack-1st minded teams like Mexico, Spain and Chile. It all depends on the competition. Germany will drop their mid-field and wait for an error to counter attack, playing to the advantage of Argentina. If they put pressure on Argentina (like Mexico did), Argentina leaves the field open for a dangerous game. Expect Messi to finally get his 1st goal in the tournament. Argentina 2-0 Germany 29th min - Maxi Rodriguez 61st min - Messi
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread We can speculate all we want, but we are all wasting time. It will be a tight match for sure. For some reason, I was more concerned about the Mexico game than this game against Germany. Maybe because I was dreading getting crap from my mexicano buddies on the pitch. There are so many variables (officiating, yellow/red cards, the Jabulani, etc.), that we can throw out predictions until we are all blue in the face, but conventional wisdom is that either team can walk away with a win. I would be surprised if it ends in more than a 1 goal differential, save for PK's. It seems that all the Germans are confident that they will prevail. Likewise, we all feel pretty confident that we will beat the German side. So, the only purpose of this discussion is to pass the time until the match. Still…I am at peace for the moment, but I am sure I will be a nervous wreck come Saturday morning. VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW...how sweet would a Dutch - Argentina final be? Ah...it would bring me back to my youth in BA.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread and how do u think they do in the final against a team that plays like brazil
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Additionally (to your 2:0 theory)goals conceded: 4. Minute - 0: 1 by Manuel Neuer (caused by a phenomenal throw in) 33. Minute - 1:2 by Badstuber (with a gigantic header from the midline) 70. Minute - 2:3 by Schweinsteiger (Kicked with Schweinsteiger's heel while he asks Maradona for an autograph) 81. Minute - 2:4 Manuel Neuer again (caused by a goal kick)
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread I think the final vs Brazil will be 2-1 34' Kaka and in the 2nd half 54' Mueller 89' Marin Oh, I'm sorry....you meant Argentina??
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread You're wrong. http://www.fussballdaten.de/vereine/deutschland/argentinien/ It's not 3:1:1 but 2:2:1 (wins after pk shooting count as a draw. Btw. The Argies are the top favs and gonna seek for 2006 revenge (hopefully not by starting a fight again, so I expect them to win ... but well, never underestimate the German team (especially when it is regarded as outsider)!
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Inconsistent in performance and not in reference to the result. It owns 2 faces (a beautiful and an ugly one) ... so let's wait up which one we'll see on Saturday. Actually I don't care as long as we win (ugly wins against Turkey & Ghana are surely more preferrable than beautiful defeats against Brazil 2002 or Italy 2006. But I know that Germany needs a top performance (that from the England match won't be enough, although it was pretty good) in order to advance against Messi & Co...
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Argentina is in a destiny-moment kind of experience with the inspiration they have from Maradona, and that's the kind of team that goes on to win the World Cup. I know that sounds wacko, but I think they will get the lucky bounce because they EXPECT the lucky bounce because they are playing well and confident and are convinced it is their time. Germany is playing well, but I don't think they have the quite the same coming together of team and coach and the moment. And Argentina's strike force is the best in the tournament, plain and simple. Leo Messi will break out in this game. I'm not a Germany hater. How can you hate a team that humbled England so effectively? They have been a lot of fun to watch this tournament, and I wish this game were a semifinal or a final rather than a quarterfinal.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Man, you crack me up Your analysis is always "X is so awesome, and we need our top game or else we won't stand a chance". If we lose : Oh well I told you didn't I? If we win : "X is so awesome, and we need our top game next time or else we won't stand a chance". etc.
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread its argentina 1 -2 germany .. Argenitna beat them in 86, germany beat them a few years before that in a group game.. And then again in the final at 1990,,.. And the rest were draws..like in 06' so much for a "lopsided" rivalry..
Re: Match 57 (QF) - Germany v Argentina - Pre-Match Thread Argentina appear like the "team of destiny" this time around and have incredible momentum, I'll be surprised if Germany were to win this one. Of course, games are not played on paper and it should make for an exciting encounter. Either way, this will be a tremendous experience for the young German team, regardless of the outcome. Hoping for a fair and entertaining match.
