The Suarez handball was a calculated risk that paid off for Uruguay. He'll be lauded a hero for that red card.

Credit to Ghana for a spirited performance, but they were the ones that ultimately lost the game. They should still be proud for coming closer to a semi than any African team.

    Yep.

Brilliant in retrospect. The question now is whether Uruguay can grind out a result against Holland without him.

I've said it before: this Uruguay team has garra.

I wonder how many matches of suspension he'll get.

That handball allowed Uruguay to advance, but it's bad for the sport overall.

As great as Abreu's penalty was, it's a bit of a failure by Ghana not to have scouted him better. That's basically his signature move. He's been doing it for years.

Well put. None the less, seeing so many missed opportunities by Ghana is really depressing. Mensah's PK was awful IMO. Whether it was an arrogant attempt or not, morale levels plummeted from there.

    Frame those gloves Muslera...

Geez...some people are criticizing Suarez for cheating. If you don't do the same thing in that situation, you're an idiot.

One penalty kick away from history. ONE effing kick. Why, gyan, why?? You buried one right after it...one kick away...Uruguay didn't win...Ghana lost....That simple really...

Anyway, good game Uruguay. Good luck against the Dutch.

How is it bad for the sport overall? He was penalized for it, and the Gyan missed the PK.

That was one of the most spectacular finishes I've ever seen since I've been watching the game, and I don't blame Suarez one bit. He saved his team with that handball, and he got punished for it.

Terrible feeling as Ghana fan. Make me think that small change needed - stopping goal from going in is red card and goal (no PK). So people stop do it.

How cruel is that? Suarez probably shouldn't make any public appearances for quite a while.

Why do Ghana have a German (Ok, half German) when he is not shooting their penalties?

Bitter taste that Uruguay advanced because of that hand by Suarez. At least 2 games out!

No. Why should a goal be handed out like a lollipop? You get a PK just as any handball within the penalty box would result in a PK. If you can't sink the PK, well that's just on you.

Why, because he is the national hero of Uruguay?
Everyone with a bit of love for his mothercountry should have done the same.

Why not? He just made the most heroic play for his country since before he was born.

It would have been cheating had the ref not seen it or called it.

Yes the laws might be unfair, but those are the laws, its not Suarez's fault. He was applied the law to the full extent, and well its not his fault those are the laws.

It is alot like fouling a bad free throw shooter in basketball. Simple as.

Yea maybe a change is needed but the bottom line is that Suarez took a calculated risk, and it paid off. He knew the consequences, and he was willing to take them. You can't really fault a guy for doing that. I'm guessing anyone would have done the same thing in that situation...
