Hoping for a good match from a moderate neutral. England domination would be best for the U.S. imo.

Dunno. You need to beat Algeria anyway. If they win this match then you have a shot at topping the group.

Anthems are over. Where is the PBP thread?

    Classic sentiments from world anthems:

England: Long to reign o'er us -- They are proud and humbled to be loyal subjects of the Crown. Keeps their heads screwed on straight.

Italia: Siam pronti alla morte we are prepared to die -- Now that's the way to rally the people to your cause!! You don't recruit too many, but you get all the good ones --

If U.S. and Algeria tie then in the last match, it can be pretty good for Slovenia too. Of course everything will be in U.S. team's hands then.

And if England does not beat Algeria, it can get even more interesting, with all four countries having chances for the group of 16 ...

England need to find their oeuvre in the first 7-8 minutes to control the match....

Algeria win. We have to beat Algeria regardless in the next game, so denying any points to England is best for us.

03' 0-0 England free kick from 25m right touch -- couple of headers in the box, finally cleared ...

    04' 0-0 ... to midfield (England's) left, #14 Gareth Barry plays forward to dodge a slide-tackle, micro-touch sends him gracefully face-planting fully 1m up -- and he's called for over-embellishment.

05' 0-0 Lampard(?) lofts a harmless ball high to the goal line -- #23 Rais M'Bolhi over-embellishes it, leaping up-and-back at 1m to barely catch it, and holding on as he falls flat, parallel to his line. Almost :D

09' 0-0 #2 Glen Johnson receives at 40m right touch, plays a sharp ball to box top right. #7 Aaron Lennon appears to dummy over the ball, possibly expecting #10 Rooney's run to be somewhat more advanced. Or he just whiffed on it.

If England wins, Slovenes hope for a US:Algeria tie or Algeria win. If Algeria wins, I become the fan of the yanks :D.

    If it's a draw, I don't know what to think :p.

How can that pigeon sleep with the vuvuzela concert?

Algeria is dominating so far, like they did versus Slovenia at first.

In group play like this you generally want any game not involving you to winde up in a draw. That way there are only 2 points coming out of the game, if there is a winner, it's three points.

So if this is a draw, Algeria's on 1 and England's on 2. That's good for us and for Slovenia.

Are Algeria wearing green for luck? :p

As a US fans I don't really care would actually like to see Algeria lose heavily picking up a lot of red and yellow cards accumulating in tons of suspensions for their last game.

algeria looks decent. is it safe to assume that US can win handily if they win tonight and are playing to advance? doubtful.

    sidenote - james looks shaky!

Algeria feeding balls to the forwards from the sides. But their forwards are too small and light to push aside the English defenders.
