FYI I saw Aunger teach soccer to kids on an indoor basketball court about 2 or so years ago at Tysons Sport and Health. Same w/Richie Williams about a year ago. I think they were part of some "Onalfo Soccer Camp" (former Rongen assistant). Williams, Richie 1996-2000, 2002 Onalfo, Curt 1998-1999 + Rongen Assistant (1999-2000)
A personal favorite: Iroha, Ben Nigeria 1997 Pre-United: San Jose Clash, '94 Nigeria WC team Post-United: '98 Nigeria WC team, Watford FC (England/1, England/Prem) Current whereabouts (1/18/05): Coaching under-13 boys at the real FC Dallas : http://www.fcdallas92.com/, http://www.fcdallas.com/coaches.htm#ben
Williams, Richie 1996-2000, 2002 Pre-United: Richmond Kickers Post-United: Metrostars, Richmond Kickers again Current whereabouts (1/18/05): Assistant coach at the University of Virginia Interesting note: former DC benchwarming GK Mike McGinty is also a UVa assistant.
Wow good for Richie. I was wondering where he is in this lineup: http://www.curtonalfosoccer.com/company/staff/staff.htm
I've been staring at the screen for a moments wondering how to respond to this picture of failure, should I kick my computer, should neg rep be handed out, what should I do? Finally, I have decided to cyber scream- AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
Weird, I coach with them and haven't met him. Abdul Thompson Conteh coached with our group in the past, however.
I was at the DC United-Va Beach Mariners "friendly" where Geoff Aunger's leg was broken. I think that was his last game for us. I was also at the pre-season game in Richmond where Milton Reyes tore his ACL. Maybe I shouldn't go to any more pre-season games or friendlies. Anyway, I thought that John Maessner was an assistant at UVA as well.
Last news on Ziadie was a trial with Livingston that resulted in no offer from the club. BBC Story re: Ziadie on trial Scotsman.com story re: no offer for Ziadie No word since on whether he'll be joining Chivas USA, who selected him from New Jersey in the expansion draft.
A.J. Wood is currentlty working for Trammell Crow Companies dealing in commercial real estate. His office is in the Herndon area I belive. I first saw his name in the Post business section as a new partner with the company. Upon further checking, it's gotta be him. A former coworker said the guy won't shut the hell up when someone mentions soccer.
This is reaching, but Caleb Norkus has surfaced.....as going to Chile. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=325228&cc=5901 Maybe soemebody down there would like us to pick up his United jersey from the next equipment sale and send it down.
Do you think there's a small chance he's making more money in real estate in LA than he did with DCU?
Holy Sh!t - I almost forgot about him. Didn't he fill in for Doug Warren when DW was at his sister's wedding during the 2003 season? Talk about your "Trivial Pursuit - MLS Edition" answer!
Peter Villegas is in Ecuador and is captaining his team Depotivo Cuenca. I caught him in a Copa Libertadores game a while ago, he looked good, he also scored a goal over the weekend in the Ecuadorean league, a game which he also wore the captains armband.
http://www.uefa.com/footballcentral/news/Kind=2/newsId=150844.html Ivanov signed a six-month contract a year ago for PFC Marek Dupnitza in Bulgaria. Don't know what happened since. As an aside, I always gave him more credit than most around here.Hope he's still playing somewhere.
Kevin Ara is now on the New England roster and per their site, we should see him play in the Sunday morning reserve game on April 24th.
He's been playing with their reserves, but probably just as a guest player. Right now he's not listed on the roster at mlsnet or revolutionsoccer.net. mlsnet has been making some mistakes by adding some of the guest reserve players to the rosters but has mostly straightened that out
Newflash. You heard it here first. Petter Villegas is now playing with the USL First Division (formerly known as the "A-League") club that I support, the Puerto Rico Islanders. He just joined the club this week. It's a long way from captaining Deportivo Cuenca and Libertadores. Sorry for Petter. Selfish bastard that I am though--Happy as hell for my beloved Islanders.
Don't know if it counts (or if he ever played a reserve game for us) but Andrew Terris is now sitting on the bench in Columbus. He could be part of that MLS goalie pool, or did they get rid of it when they expanded the rosters? Thx, Jay!
