27 and 28 are prime for most attacking positions but usually DMs, CBs and Keepers mature later. It is not unusual for CBs and keepers to play at a high level past their mid 30s.
Really comparing him with Maldini? As for Puyol he is 35 and Barca doesn't use and will probably be in the MLS next year. Will he go to the WC? 3 years younger than Yepes
Crazed, IF we had Maldini or Puyol, we would not be discussing Yepes' starting spot in our NT. Unfortunately we don't have many CBs at a top level right now, like we did 4 or 8 years ago. Zapata seems to be our best defender but Pekerman does not seem to have 100% confidence on him and all the other guys are one step below Zapata and Yepes. Perea is known for his once/twice a game mental blunders, Aquivaldo seems to be out of favor with Pekerman and Valdes has just moved to a new team. Balanta is too young and inexperienced for the NT. Who else do we have? Believe me, I've been one of the most critical of Yepes but as things stand right now, 90 days from WC, I think he is almost guaranteed a starting spot in the WC.
Is he still with Atlanta or a free agent? Def think after the WC he should retire from the NT but think he can still play another season in Europe. He wants to coach right? Remember hearing cordoba say he wanted to be the president of the federation and have Yepes be the NT coach.
Would you like to see him play for yet another year? Frankly, I think that retiring at a World Cup is more better than a Copa America. Yepes should go out with a bang, when Colombia plays in the world cup.
I will personally be pissed if Yepes is at Copa America. It's like WTF are we getting rid of him. After the WC its time for new blood. Our team right now is pretty young other than Yepes and Mondragon. Shitty thing is I don't see a 3rd GK in Colombia.
Does anyone know what he will be doing once he retires? He's supposed to retire after the world cup...
I am thinking that he's not pleased with how his 'last game' for Colombia ended on such a matter. You guys don't think he'll try to stay yet another year playing for us at the Copa America?
ESta cerca de alcanzar al pibe en numeros de partidos jugados......yo creo que va en busca de ese record...........aunque para mi se deberia ir.
I read this interview with Yepes that hints that if Pekerman comes back Yepes hopes to be part of the staff. Yepes, de 38 años de edad, se graduó como técnico y espera ejercer en el futuro en la selección al lado de Pekerman. LINK
Ahh that's what I was looking for.. I was hoping someone with his personality would want to become a coach. I could definitely see him coaching successful teams in the future.
He wants to be a coach. He said that he wanted to coach our NT and have Ivan Cordoba be the president of our federation.
