I still have concerns with some of the pre-game stuff (the walk-in chant for example) and the sometimes spontaneous post-games chants for a given player being drowned out by the band. (I also wonder how long the "not playing during the halves" will last, but I'm cynical)
You guys know pretty much what we know now. GoRapids says they won't play during run of play, but they had asked us about possibility of doing that some. As mentioned, we've said we much prefer that they stay silent during run of play, and will try to keep it that way. That is about where it was left. We'll see what happens as we get closer to the opener.
Hopefully their instruments will be silent, but their voices will be loud!!! Maybe something could be organized to get them some song sheets so they can join in with the terraces chants. Probably will be hit or miss on whether they will pay attention and join in, but worth a shot.
Right, you're clearly aiming for the middle ground here... I know this is the internet and all, so you feel like it's okay pretend to be tougher than your scrawny self and to criticize at will, while also pretending you're above criticism yourself. I also know that you know me personally, or something, which is how you would know my "laziness" and "self-absorption" are exactly why I don't contribute to your groups. Or something. You know, instead of myriad other reasons, such as, to pull an example completely at random, group members who result to personal attacks in the face of criticism and are dismissive of any ideas that don't come from within the group. Anyway, if you want to pretend the supporters groups do not consist of many cynical people who don't dream big enough, that's fine. My experiences with them say otherwise, and our experiences differ, that's that. You've done nothing to convince me otherwise. jayd summed up everything else I would have said. Enjoy your bubble.
*shrug* Why not just see how it works? The Washington Redskins are (I think) the only NFL team with a band, and it hasn't exactly killed their atmosphere at FedEx Field. A live performance of Audiobrain's MLS Official Theme (Processional Anthem) might be a cool way to bring the Rapids onto the pitch. Besides, it might be fun to have a group of high schoolers to drown out the Herbalife zombies if they dare appear again. And they just might play the Star Spangled Banner and O Canada on key, and that's not a bad thing either, eh? And the occasional rendition of Three Blind Mice might even be appropriate for certain officials.
Don't see it as a big deal if they only play pre-half-post. Plus some Colorado bands are really good... Lets not just throw the idea away, plus no where does anyone say they will play during games.
I had asked yesterday if it was okay to let people know ... Jason was courteous enough to ask before putting in BigSoccer ... I was told details are still being worked out and they weren't going to play during the run of play.
Thanks. Please let me know if you have any details as to how schools can get involved. I'm a high school teacher and I know that our band director is a Rapids fan.
The USA vs. Panama match tonight sounded like there was a band in the stadium ... one vote against it here ... it really took the crowd noise out of the broadcast. That was during the run of play though and it has been said they won't play then, possibly even MLS policy (?) for when jock rock can and can't be played anyway? A bigger issue may be school sponsors, teachers, and students' parents complaining about 'soccer' language? High School students on an 'official' school trip will be different than that same age group just attending a match.
I know this is the internet and all, so you feel that your opinions somehow make you an authority on everything you spout off about and pretend you're some kind of hero. The fact that your not involved and you chose to "walk away" because of philosophical differences, disagreements, or some other irrelevant bullshit like that really doesn't give you a whole lot of room to criticize the groups' attitude as a whole. I'm not a PR spokesperson for my group and what I write on here is my own opinion. I don't universally agree with everything that the supporters in my group say or do. I certainly don't universally agree with everything the other groups do. In spite of that however, I'm still active and do what I can to contribute. If I don't agree with something, we talk through it. We do have some cynical people. I never said we didn't, though you can believe the contrary all you want. We also have some very optimistic and spirited people. The fact is we have a pretty wide range of many different people that are involved...but we all work together in spite of differences. That takes effort. You obviously have chosen not to make that effort and that is why I called you lazy. You can keep acting like we're all the same and paint 3 groups consisting of hundreds of people with a thick brush, and I will be obliged to tell you to kiss my ass when you pass judgement on us as a whole. That is why I pointed out that you said something stupid. Furthermore your condescending tone, which in fact plagues the a lot of your posts, is why I called you self-absorbed and a dickhead. You and I have done this dance before on these boards. I'll continue to enjoy my "bubble", and you can enjoy yours.
I'll trade the stuffed animals running around for a band all day. If this keeps them from watering the field at halftime I say win-win. Give it a shot what the hell. High school kids might bring some energy.
Is your point obscure or just plain silly. Are you making a point of HS kids at games or a marching band at games? So often posts are so poorly written that before long the thread is co-opted. A rule of thumb, "think first, type second"!
The band was a pretty minor factor, the B-team vs. B-team was a lot of the rest of the 'problem'. A bigger question is whether or not the back to back 'lucky' 1 - 0 B-team wins get us on our way back to being over-rated instead of under-rated in the FIFA rankings? ;>) (Italy away with the A-team might not help.)
And if I recall correctly it is something the players were demanding in the past. It is standard practice the world over.
Except when its raining. I know its done to prevent the "burns" from sliding on grass (Slang- Cherrys, Strawberries, etc) but no clue if FIFA or just US deal. Do our turf teams (Seattle, Portland, Vancouver now) do it?
Hate the idea, but whatever. If we don't have a choice, there's not much we can do. Will let it play out and see how horrible it turns out, but as Han Solo once said, "I've got a real bad feeling about this".
Since you made it clear from your original post that the bands would not be playing during the game, my point was simply that many people seemed to be over reacting to a group of HS kids enjoying a soccer game. Seem to me that the tread was co-opted by the folks who incorrectly made assumptions that the bands would be perfuming during the game. I, for one, think very carefully before typing.
To be fair there seems to be a question mark about what's going to happen. I was told through some SG leaders that they would only play pre/halfpost game but Dave in talks with the Rapids has said that the possibility of them playing during the game still exists.
I sincerely hope that is not the case. I agree with Dave and many others that if it happens during the match it could be a huge distraction and blatantly disrespectful to the SC's!
