If it was one or two players under-performing, I could understand but the whole team then it a coaching problem. Mano had a Copa America to open his eyes and he continues to make the same mistakes. There is not balance whatsoever in this team.
I think the second Paraguay game at the CA was pretty good. The team is still searching for its identity because its young and not used to each other. Attacking philosophy will always result with less balance, but it compensates with more talent to score more often. Its strange why nobody is taking into consideration what Mano said - the Germans were physically better prepared because they started preseason earlier and their league has already started. Also, the only player that suffers because of tactics is Dani Alves, who has it very different from Barcelona. The others have individual problems, Ganso is out of form, Neymar has bad decision making, Robinho is mentally weak, Pato is poor in buildup participation, Lucio is getting worse with age, Andre Santos is plain poor etc. But they will mold eventually with time and dead wood like Lucio and Andre Santos will hopefully be replaced with David Luiz and Marcelo. Have faith people.
It get exposed against better teams like it did in 06 and now again under Mano. You can't just player 4 attackers, 1 DM, 1 CM with 2 offensive minded fullbacks and not get punish for it.
Let's also keep in mind we played Germany. A team which had an impressive WC (had it not been for Spain they would have won), they kept their coach who is keeping their base and system intact. We were also playing in Germany. Our team is being completely rebuilt. I actually expected to lose this game. That's not to say we don't need changes on the team.
I think a midfield of Lucas, Sandro, and Ganso -- with Luiz Gustavo at Left Back -- will ease my worries a lot more. I mean, the team honestly played pretty decently in the first half and did a good job shutting down Lahm. We just couldn't keep it up.
I think we need to re-evaluate this past full year with Mano as the coach. We have had very little success while Mano brought along a great amount of players as a try-out sort of speak. By now, Mano should have an idea on what path this team should be going. Unfortunately, I don’t believe he knows what he needs both player call-ups and tactically. Yesterday’s game was perfect example of this. Our beloved Selecao played what it seemed with 3 “volantes”. Ralf, Ramires & Fernandinho. We had no ball possession whatsoever. We defended for dear life like it was the 88th of a WC final in the first half. That to me shows that Mano is not prepared and tactically lost. With no ball-possession it’s very hard for guys like Neymar-Robinho-Pato do anything. Yes, they all have individual capabilities but if they don’t get the ball then this all goes to waste. This era is not starting off in the right foot. Mano time after time has relied on players that have not proven anything in their respected clubs and most importantly for Brazil. My question is, what is Mano seeing that no one else sees? Guys like Renato Augusto, Fernandinho, Jonas, Ralf, Andre Santos……… have proven very little. So how are they deservingly getting called-up? How many times have we spoken in this forum about how Hernanes, Marcelo, Hulk, Nilmar even Ronaldinho should be there instead. The entire Brazilian nation feels the same way. So something sketchy is going on here and the game results are not helping either. Lastly ….Did anyone know that Fernandinho’s agent is also Mano’s agent? Yes this is true and it’s all over the Brazilian press. So we ask Why Mano? Why these names? Why bother cheering for the idiots you bring up.
while i agree with you, some guys havent been given enough chances. Renato August, Jadson, and Fernandinho in particular. I think Jonas, Elias, and Andre Santos do not deserve further call-ups. And with respect to fernandinho, the agent thing may be the reason why he was called up. But, Fernandinho has still been a very good player for Shakthar for the past 6 years. I was happy that he finally got a chance, because he deserved it. Maybe Jadson and Willian and Douglas Costa, his teammates, deserve more looks. But I'm happy to see Fernandinho on the team.
So youre saying this era is just starting, but at the same time we still need to reevaluate the situation? Some of Mano's suspect callups are better than Dunga's Baptista and co. They didn't click, but you can make a case for every one of them. There are always areas you can improve on, but I'm not seeing Mano making radical choices and extreme errors.
Personally, I like Mano and respect what he's trying to build stylistically while developing younger players for Brazil. I think he's trying to develop a much more expansive and attacking team, and therefore has a higher degree of difficulty, which needs time. The only problem is that the progress of the team achieving Mano's vision is highly uneven. If it were a chart it would zig-zag up and down wildly, when it should be a more steadly diagonal line going up. There's little consistency. The worrying thing, IMO, is the reliance on Ganso- not just him but really any single playmaker and the possibility that this approach is just tactically flawed when they don't provide any defensive cover. Pato, on the other hand, will pull out of his slump. I like Mano's ideas and find them highly refreshing, but you can't argue with those criticizing Mano's results- they're just not very good. As Scabbt 22 says above, "By now, Mano should have an idea on what path this team should be going." There's just not evidence of this.
This. btw, the performances have been steadily improving (Germany game notwithstanding), so the results are a bit deceiving.
What the hell are you talking about? A whole year this dude is playing around and the team is crap. Any regular team would have sacked up dumbass out already. Mano should go. Simple as that.
Job was offered to two people before Mano. He was third option. So I would go and ask Scolari and Muriçoca if either of them as willing to take the job at this time. In case they say no, I would follow that bs CBF says about wanting to have a young team and would call Ney Franco the dude who's the under 20 coach, hence nobody knows the younger generation better than this dude and he's already got our under 20 team at the semifinals of the u-20 WC (with a possible shot at the tittle).
Good to see my Gaucho mate back to his bombastic best! He has been strangely silent for a little while.
Oh yes they should get Dunga back at once. Together with the same roster that he took to South Africa last year. Unforgetable squad. We lost but it sure was a performance for the history books.
Listen, Germany has the same coach for 8 years winning or losing. He replaces the old and keep what works and they're team is always a threat. Dunga's numbers speak for themselves. He should have not been fired. Dunga was right and Globo and the eixo can go to hell.
I think it's impractical to mantain a coach ahead of Brazil after losing the WC. It's part of the brazilian soccer culture to throw the coach under the bus once he fails.
It not the worst Brazil team I ever seen but it is the most disorganized team I have seen. It like 11 headless chickens on the field. On top of that; Mano coaching ability is meh at best. I see no signs that he actually trying to build a team.
Tactically I have not seen any improvement out of Mano, and in all honesty it has gotten worst by each game. What looked like a promising start against the USA last year (2-0) has consistently been getting worst. We debate what players Mano should be calling up but I’m at a point where it doesn’t matter if we have our best players out there b/c Mano will find a way to screw it up. Mano, vai tomar no.....!!!
