here is what i was told these are the major rule changes being discussed this week #1 goals will be worth 1pt 2pts 3pts now #2 The goal keeper will be restricted to a 20ft arc around his box & can not enter the field of play beyond the 20ft arc
I have been avocating rule #2 for years. I think it will be great to stop the goalkeeper from slowly walking the ball up the field.
Both rules are stupid. #1 - MPS has got to go. Indoor soccer is not basketball with feet. It's outdoor soccer with boards. #2 - Restricting the goalkeeper to the penalty area makes no sense. There goes any chance to send in a sixth attacker at the end of the game.
I my self love this rule the keeper needs to stay in the box sagu got burned a lot last year leaving his box
I dont think the rule will apply to the 6th attacker since he is a field player acting like a goal keeper
I think the intention is to stop all the empty net three point goals (which is most of them, including when the goalkeeper gets caught out of position).
You can see more on the MISL meeting later this summer when it is released as the major motion picture "Rise of the Planet of the Apes".
Both rules are weak! I do not believe that this keeper rule is to keep him in the arc. I think it will refer to the blue/yellow/defensive 3rd line. Otherwise the game would constantly stop every time the keep slid outside of the arc.
Cardshop usually is weak on getting the story right, but he makes it sound like they are going to put a third arc in front of the goal, but they can't be that stupid can they?
That's just gonna make the casual crowd that attends the games even more confused and gonna spur more "get rid of MPS" topics/threads on here. Ante Cop is spewing over this one... Indoor soccer needs a bit of consistency, and these rule changes are not helping the MISL brand.
One of my favorite moments playing soccer: I made a save and immediately realized the other team had pressed far forward. I rolled the ball forward and raced out. A teammate ran alongside me to the right. The lone defender raced with me two-thirds of the way down the field until I finally slid the ball over to the teammate, who was one-on-one with the keeper and scored. Why take that away? MPS is fine with me. This isn't outdoor soccer. Jazz it up.
In all forms of soccer, both teams are required to dress a player on the field as a a goalkeeper at all times. If a sixth attacker is just a field player "acting like a goalkeeper," why would that person get privileges that other goalkeepers would not get? Why not circumvent the rule then and have a sixth attacker (who would be a goalkeeper in real life) play the whole game? The logical of that rule does not make sense.
SYD you know i know what i am talking about I never said they would add a 3rd arc they could restrict the keeper to the arc already on the field
here is what i do know here is what I know for a fact 1) we will have 1 division & 7 teams 2) playoff format Top 4 teams will go 1st plays 4 th 2nd place plays 3rd place 3) All Star game ( they are working on trying to do one this year ) 4) Coaches meeting will be This next week 5) MPS we will go back to NPSL style MPS 1 pt 2 pt 3 pt goals 6) 18 Man roster ( only 16 can dress for the game ) 7) TV Deal with FSC ( they are talking now ) the championship game will be on FSC 8) schedule no later then mid September ( they are shooting for sep 1st ) 9) Goal keepers will be restricted to a 20 FT arch around the box ( this is being talked about now ) 10) Expansion several teams are interested in joining next year the usl is looking at the following markets for expansion Minnesota , Dallas , Detroit , Harrisburg 11) Ball Kendis will supply the ball this year 12) Uniforms will have USL & A MISL logo or a combine patch with both 13) ( I League ) may soon pop up as a developmental League for the MISL
The MISL's just trying to mimic the NPSL with the MPS rule. In a way it kind of makes since, as power shootouts are easier to score and usually uncontested (with the exception of the keeper.) Looking more like basketball every year... Why don't they just install hardwood floors? However, the goalkeeper rule makes no sense at all. In outdoor soccer, it would, but in indoor soccer the goalie is one of the 6 field players and shouldn't be restricted to a confined area. What are they going to call on him if a dead ball is rolling down the field and he comes out of the arc to kick it back? If they're gonna go this far, they should just go all the way with these rule changes and go back to shootouts instead of overtime...
You said a 20 foot arc. The three point arc is 45 feet. The penalty arc is not 20 feet. So, at least one of your statements is incorrect.
They are only talking about the goalkeeper rule. Let's hope it is only talk. The 6th attacker is the goalkeeper. In my opinion he should not have special rules. I just thought of this, maybe you "pull the keeper" and when you have the extra attacker on the floor, no one can legally handle the ball.
I actually like multi-ball, but not in this form, when they got rid of the 1 point goal, that made more sense. If we go back to the forced shoot out and extra 1 point PP, I'll watch the PASL. Or maybe I'll just take up roller hockey...
This is what happens when you create problems for yourself. You create other problems trying to fix the original problems. They should just play the game the right way. They have no institutional memory at the MISL now. They have a couple new guys who saw indoor soccer in 1996 and think that's how the game is supposed to be played. What they don't realize is the game was more popular then than it is now because it was riding on the fumes of the original MISL and that attendance was way down in 1996 from 1992.
Reminds me of watching the train wreck that has become The Simpsons. From 1991 through the '90s, almost every episode was a classic. Then as the writers aged and were replaced, the quality got iffy. Now in the last five years or so, the only thing that The Simpsons has in common with the glory days is that the characters are yellow and that Maggie doesn't talk. Of course, in baseball, fielders didn't wear gloves and a ball caught on one bounce was an out....
I liked the last season of the Simpsons. And Saturday Night Live, the other show that has been better in "the good old days" since 1979 or so.
