MACCABI USA YOUTH SOCCER TEAMS The United States Maccabi organization has announced the formation of four youth soccer teams to compete in the 10th Pan American Maccabi Games to be held in Santiago, Chile in December, 2003. Participation on the United States teams is open to Jewish men and women born in calendar years 1984 through 1986 (men's and women's youth teams) and 1987 through 1989 (men's and women's junior teams). A men's open soccer team and a men's masters soccer team (35+) are also being formed to compete in Chile. All interested athletes may submit applications to be considered for these teams. Applications should be completed on line at the Maccabi USA web site at http://www.maccabiusa.com. In 1999, 2,000 athletes from over 15 countries competed in Mexico City at the 9th Pan American Maccabi Games. 2,500 athletes from about 20 countries are expected at the 2003 Chile Games. The US delegation to the 2003 Games is expected to consist of almost 500 athletes competing on over 50 Junior, Youth, Open and Masters Teams in more than 15 sports. Athletes from more than 20 different states are typically represented on Maccabi USA national teams attending the Pan Am Maccabi Games. Team USA will depart the United States on December 24, 2003 and will return to the US on January 5, 2004. In addition to the soccer teams, Maccabi USA will compete in sports as diverse as baseball, basketball, volleyball, bowling, golf, gymnastics, judo, karate, swimming, tennis and water polo, among others.
