Maccabi Haifa will be seeded in the Second Qualifying Round where they start and also the Third Qualifying Round and Playoff (Fourth Qualifying) Round if they get that far. Maccabi Haifa has a coefficient of 21.400 and their 19 possible Second Qualifying Round opponents have coefficients ranging from 2.549 for Dacia Chisinau of Moldova to 0.774 for Skerderbeu Korce of Albania. The first two seasons of the current qualifying round format the Israeli champions faced by FK Aktobe of Kazakhstan and Red Bull Salzburg of Austria but neither of those clubs won their leagues to qualify for the Champions League. http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/seedcl2011.html has seeding for the Champions League. If they reach the Group Stage, Maccabi Haifa's coefficient will be 29th or better among the 32 clubs there. Maccabi Haifa would have a better coefficient than at least one other champion who advanced through the qualifying rounds and two clubs that will start in the Group Stage, Napoli of Italy and Otelul Galati of Romania.

The draw for the first two qualifying rounds will be on 20 June and Maccabi Haifa will start their Second Qualifying Round on 12 or 13 July.

For the second consecutive season the champions of Israel will play the champion of Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Second Qualifying Round. Borac Banja Luka has the third best coefficient of the seventeen unseeded clubs in the Second Qualifying Round.

Maccabi Haifa is preparing by playing in the Salzburgerland Cup. They lost 1:0 to Rapid Bucuresti, a club with a worse coefficient than Maccabi Haifa. Today Maccabi Haifa plays and will probably lose to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Maccabi Haifa will play their Second Qualifying Round first leg at home on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. USA Eastern Time. I may or may not be at work and if I'm not working I will look for a stream online. Using the odds at http://www.oddsmeter.com/Matches/EU...League-11/Maccabi Haifa-Borac Banja Luka.aspx the first leg probabilities are:

    Maccabi Haifa win: 80.4%
    Draw: 12.4%
    Borac Banja Luka win: 7.2%

Borac Banja Luka scored in the 24th minute and led until Amasha tied it in first half stoppage time. Amasha gave Maccabi Haifa the lead in the 71st minute, Yampolsky scored in the 72nd minute, Amasha scored his third goal of the game in the 73rd minute, and Golasa scored in the 80th minute for a 5:1 win. Maccabi Haifa had more shots on target, 9 to 2, and more corner kicks, 12 to 1.

Do you think that the Syrian Arab Federation for Football is kicking themselves that they didn't convince Amashe to join them ten years ago?

If they advance to the Third Qualifying Round, Maccabi Haifa will play NK Maribor of Slovenia (4.224 coefficient) or F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg (1.524 coefficient).

Re: Maccabi Haifa [R], UEFA Champions League, 2011/12

The Israeli media are calling NK Maribor an easy draw. I am a little more pessimistic. Slovenian football is on the upswing after their 2010 FIFA World Cup appearance and while NK Maribor don't have a player in the national team set-up, others like Palermo's Armin Bačinović, Siniša Anđelković & Josip Iličić and Bologna's Rene Krhin, all went to Italy from Maribor. So there should be no discrediting of NK Maribor and they shouldn't go into the match thinking that it will be a push over.

Borac Banja Luka leads 2:1 at halftime. Maccabi Haifa scored the goal in the middle. Although UEFA doesn't mention it, at the end of the first half Borac Banja Luka had a shot saved and then sent the rebound over the goal with the goalkeeper down. Borac Banja Luka must score at least 3 goals in the second half to have a chance to advance.

    It's 2:2 in the 71st minute.

Edit: Borac Banja Luka won 3:2 so Maccabi Haifa won the aggregate 7:4 but got no coefficient points today.

חיפה נחתה, אלישע לשחקניו: אל תהיו עצובים

One is reporting that Nir Davidovich is set to lose his place in the goal and new signing Bojan Šaranov will start against NK Maribor. I didn't watch the game but the reports were really bad and blamed Nir Davidovich for two of the three goals against.

Re: Maccabi Haifa [R], UEFA Champions League, 2011/12

Vered scored in the 10th minute for Maccabi Haifa and Marcos scored in the 32nd minute for Maribor. I watched starting about 1:50 into stoppage time. In the 6th and final minute of stoppage time, Marcos shot and goalkeeper Davidovitch tipped it over the goal. Maribor got a corner kick and shot the ball a little over the goal on the last play of the game. The 1-1 draw gave Maccabi Haifa a 3-2 aggregate win. The draw for the final qualifying round (Playoff Round) is on Friday.

Edit: Maccabi Haifa's possible opponents are:

    Wisla Krakow (Poland)
    Sturm Graz (Austria)
    Genk (Belgium)
    Viktoria Plzen (Czech Republic)
    Malmo FF (Sweden)

Terrible draw. I am really fearful of Genk and Elianiv Barda. The biggest problem? The injuries to players like Andriy Pylyavskyi out injured. We need Itzik Cohen and Tamir Cohen to sign for us.
