I figured it was time to revive last year's thread. Post your weekly results and insights for your team, whether it be the Prem League, 1st Division, 2nd Division, etc. Also, post your results for the Utah Open Cup and Utah Champions League games. From what I've heard, the Utah Champions League winner is entered into a tournament in Vegas at the end of the season. Nice addition to the league. Tue 6/9/09 - Pan World FC (4) - Salt Lake Old Boys (2) Yesterday we (Pan World) played an Open Cup game in at the West Jordan complex. The field was flooded, and it rained pretty hard the entire first half; Second half lightened up. The ball skipped like crazy, making ball control difficult and through balls/long balls all but impossible. Salt Lake Old Boys played very well through the game, but didn't take enough shots. On one play, we were awarded a PK, and our keeper took it. Their keeper blocked it, and our keeper jogged back and was barely able to block the counter attack. Their keeper followed that up with a nice drop kick, which bounced/skipped over our keeper's head (he was about 25 yards out) and into the goal. Very embarrassing goal, but props to their keeper. The game was a fun game, notwithstanding the rain, but I think I'm developing a cold due to it. I took 15 to 32's advice, and kept my head down when shooting . This resulted in scoring on the 2 shots I took. Come to think of it, I've only taken 3 shots this season. For some reason I don't have the confidence to take shots unless we play teams from lower leagues. Anyone else have this problem? How did everyone else fare this past week?
Sorry for thread resurrection, but is there a website to learn more about this? Maybe next year I can pay attention more. Thanks.
utahsoccer.org has the schedules and player information, but I can't find anything on the Open Cup. From what I understand, it is formatted along the lines of the US Open Cup. It's open to teams from all of the divisions, but I don't know how you qualify for it (maybe Dadof6 can help here). It may be just a fact of signing up for it at the beginning of the season, or you are entered into it automatically each season. I believe it is single elimination. Another tourney that was started this year is the Utah Champions League. It was an 8 team tourney that had group stages of 4 teams each. The top 2 from each side went on to the semis. The final is set for Sept 30th with Westminster FC v Pan World FC. The winner is being sponsored by Utah Soccer to play in a tourney in Vegas. Entry was a $30 (don't remember if this was per team or player, but I believe it was per player) fee at registration time to those who wanted to play.
Yes. I play for Pan World FC, but I live in Layton. I'm a utility player and I play wherever I'm needed. My preference is forward or left mid, but I get put everywhere, including keeper. However, I'm not a big fan of center mid. I suck it up at that position (maybe due to the anxiety of playing the ball to the right people or suffering the wrath/yelling of my team).
