Alrighty then. The only benefit of this game being so close to Hull in a handbasket is that we can forget that game ASAP and go for 3 here.

Play Aspas up with Suarez. Start Phil. Agger back in - find a way to play sakho too.

I think BRogers needs to find his "best" team and play it - and forget about trying to "match up" against other teams - let them match up to LFC.

Right now, with the loss of Sturridge, we need to find who works the best with Suarez up front...why adjust the whole team instead of just replacing Studge with Moses? or Aspas? or Ibe?

It seems we shift lineups so much - especially in the back and up front...that we get no consistency...

And I think that maybe Jordan Henderson needs a rest...he still has not hit a good shot on target (or not many)...and he plays a position that needs to contribute goals.

And why name DAgger vice captain if he doesn't play? Is he injured again? Or was that just a move to keep him from going to Barca?

Moses says he can score 20 goals - put him up top where Studge played and let him...

GJohnson did not play well on Sunday, but he was not at fault for the goals...the first was a Moses give-away in a bad spot...and a deflection, the second...well, Johnson could've closed down quicker, but that ball really should've been cleared the first time around...and the third was an unfortunate own-goal...

Thank goodness this game is against Norwich. Wish I could have gotten Luis into my fantasy team for this game...

As poor as we were on Sunday, and boy did we stink, I'd still play the same formation and same 11. Sterling and Moses actually need match time and will always perform badly if they are only brought in when we are desperate.

November was poor and yet we are still in contention for the Champions League a good December can cement that.

For what it's worth, this is what I'd go with...

    -----------Aspas---Suarez-------------
    --------------Gerrard------------------
    Coutinho---------------Henderson---
    --------------Lucas--------------------
    Cissokho----------------Johnson-----
    ---------Agger------Sahko------------

I think for Suarez to find enough room he has to have someone to run off of, and/or to open space for him. Aspas doesn't have to score, but he did seem to show some good positional play in the preseason, and could help open up space for Suarez and Coutinho to work in.

One other thing, that won't ever happen, but I'd really like to see is a back line like this...

    Johnson------------------Agger------
    ----------Sahko-----Toure------------

Since, neither Toure or Agger could probably play a whole game at WB/FB have them switch at the half or something like that. Again, it'll never happen, but I put it out there for discussion, and I really would think it'd be fun to see how that works out.

So BR has one day to decide what he wants to do. presumably we train tomorrow as we will play. I would play a 4-4-2 and pick a partner for Luis. And pick a best back four and play them game after game

Rodgers clearly wanted to exploit the wings and it failed, don't make the same mistake i say

    ----------------Suarez
    Coutinho------Allen--------Henderson
    ---------Lucas-----Gerrard
    Cissokho----Toure---Agger----Johnson

if johnson doesn't pick up his game, off for flanno at half time. If allen doesn't, off for alberto

Stick with a consistent centre back partnership and use it for a good few games. The inconsistency of player selection at the back is not good for the long run.

Aggreed. As much as I want it to go back to the pairing we had to start the season (and stick with it for at least 3-4 games) right now we need to stay consistent. I would however go back to the 4-4-2. Chalk up the last game to a learning curve.

I agree with Hubbabubba in that we need someone to help create space for Suarez. And that Aspas was doing that for Sturridge early on. So put him up there with Suarez and give Countinho the freedom to move in and around him and BAM... Suarez only has one defender to worry about.

    -----Aspas-----Suarez-----
    -----------Gerrard---------
    Countinho--------Moses
    -----------Lucas----------
    Flann-Skert-Toure-Johnson

Subs to come on- Henderson for Moses (unless Moses proves he can score or at least create. D. Agger for Skertel if he isn't performing well. The other is up for grabs but I would think of Alberto for Aspas later on. (Giving Aspas enough time to settle into the game prior to possibly pulling him)

So I am giving Henderson a rest and Moses his chance. Keeping Skert and a short leash with Dagger in the holding tank. Giving Aspas a chance to open the game for Suarez. And letting Flanagan know he hasn't done anything to lose that spot.

And overall I am telling our guys to put the pressure on them. High pressure would have us playing for #1 not just top 4. Our offense is good enough. Keep the pressure off our back 4 and let them continue to get comfortable with each other.

No idea why some want Aspas up front. He will be lacking match fitness and in his previous 6 games he has managed a total of 2 shots on goal.

who would you put up there with Suarez? (don't just criticize what others say. Give examples of what you would do differently)

I think they are in favor of a 4-4-2 with a foil for Suarez to give him more space; Aspas seems the default candidate who else have we got?

Right, it is a paucity of choices that leads to Aspas. But if Sturridge is out, what does it say if BR's forward acquisition of the summer can't get on the pitch at home to Norwich? Here is the thing, BR was back to complaining about the squad after Sunday's loss but he bought Aspas, Alberto, Illori, and Sakho while bringing in Moses and Cissokho on loan this summer. Seems that he himself only trusts Moses and occasionally Alberto. Now aside from the question of what he sees in both of them, who is then to account for the poor squad. Most of the squad are what he bought after clearing out what we all felt were lads that were not quite good enough.

I've already said what I would do further up the thread. I'd stick with the same formation with maybe Coutinho in if he's deemed fit enough and possibly Agger in for one of the CB's.

Gerrard had perhaps his worst game of the season against Hull, he created no chances and all 7 of his crosses missed their targets. It was not the attacks fault that the CM had a (creatively) awful game which is not going to repeat itself tomorrow.

He's created a chance every 40 min he's been on the field. So there's that.

In the league Sterling has created a chance every 36 minutes ;) but has pass completion rate of 84.5% to Aspas 76.6%.

I'm not suggesting that Sterling start before him all season but Aspas has not played a game for 2 months and is lacking match fitness.

Yeah, but if you thought he was boss, would you be concerned with his lack of match fitness?

I truly don't know what my lineup would be. Everyone was so diabolically shit on Sunday its hard to know which changes need to be made. With the exception of Suarez or Mignolet, I can see an solid argument for everyone else to be dropped.

That said if I were BR I'd do the following:

Norwich is likely to sit back and try and limit the damage, so a more patient, methodical approach seems to be what will be required. That means Allen in the midfield alongside Lucas. Gerrard looks about spent physically, but it seems we need his set pieces, so I'd play him as second striker with Suarez. If he's going to do some running tomorrow, I'd rather he do it around their box and not ours. Coutinho on the left if its not too much of a risk. If its touch and go I'd save him for the bench because the last thing we need is for him to break down long term again. No Coutinho, then Alberto. I'd give Aspas a go on the right and give Henderson a break. Sakho has proved he's a man you can count on when the chips are down, so he is definitely back with Skrtel in the middle. Johnson looks like he need a game off so I move Flanno to the right and bring Cissosko in at the left. If I really wanted to go crazy, play Illori at LB, but I'm not sure I am that crazy. So a 4-4-2.

    Mignolet

Flanno --- Skrtel-- Sakho --- Cissosko
    Allen -- Lucas
    Aspas Coutinho
    Gerrard
    Suarez
Subs: Jones, Agger, Illori, Henderson, Alberto, Ibe, Moses

His last start was in the home defeat to Southampton where he was easily the worst player on the pitch, on top of that he has just came back from an injury and has not yet adapted to the Prem, so yeah I'm skeptical about sticking him right back in.

Aspas was far worse against Southampton than either Moses or Sterling where against Hull. It's a case of short memory syndrome.
Honestly, that formation and selection just looks like panicking to a godawful result.

Cissokho, I can see the point of bringing in but not at the the expense of Johnson. We look a much worse side without him in the team, just look at the Arsenal and Southampton games. His attacking and a constant option of the right wing makes our play much more expansive.

I have no problem with Allen coming in for either Gerrard or Lucas but playing the three of them is overkill. Gerrard is not an AM/SS any more. Any game the three of them have played Gerrard has still retained the same position, not going to change now. Besides, the Hull game we had 62% possession and Gerrard and Lucas has passes in the 70's, it's what we did with it that was the problem.

The reason why Coutinho didn't start was because he was not 100%. Had he been I'm betting that he would of improved us when he came on at 1-1, but he didn't. BECAUSE HE WAS NOT FIT. Starting him and Aspas, who are both not 100%, is asking for trouble.

And can I just say it's pretty ironic that the poster who has been demanding that healthy players be rested all season because of fitness concerns now wants to start 2 unfit players.
