Today is the day that teams must submit it's list of the 11 players they want to protect. Anyone getting wind of whose on these lists please post here. Mod Note: The exposed players are: http://njmg.typepad.com/sbi/ ..
Head coach Mo Johnston will know which players are available to him on Nov. 14, when all teams will submit their protected rosters. Johnston will make his selections from the list of unprotected players on Friday, with the results posted on MLSnet.com immediately following the draft. C'mon MLS, release the list!!!! We're crack addicts over here. I mean, seriously. We have to wait another 5 months for league play.........GIVE US SOMETHING. FOR GODS SAKE HAVE MERCY!
Just because today is the day to submit the lists of protected players doesn't mean that the lists have been submited yet. There are still several hours left.
And I don't knwo why anyone familiar with MLS Communications would expect these lists to be released immediately. Hell, I don't expect to see them until a few minutes before the draft, if at all.
On track record you are probably right. But that begs the question: why? Is it simply a matter of inattention to fans? Do they not think we are interested. Or don't they see any newsworthiness that might bring some publicity, pre-draft analysis in columns, blogs, etc? Or is it a calculated decision to hold back, and if so, to what end? Tell the players first? Presumably the lists get circulated inter se among the teams. I really do not understand this.
Come to think of it, they may not release the lists at all, in the interest of the players. Think about the potential fallout that could occur if you, as a player, found out that you were "not on the protected list". My guess is the lists will be kept private and only the names of those players actually selected by Toronto will be released. Bummer, because I really want to know, too. But that's probably the way it will be. Just a hunch.
It's possible. But it'd also be a change from 2 years ago when the unprotected players list was revealed.
And if they had decided to withhold the lists (to protect exposed players or for any other reason) then why bother to even announce the deadline for submitting the lists? I mean, if we don't get to see the lists at all, why should we give two hoots if the list is due today, tomorrow, tomorrow night etc.?
Chicago's list of protected players: http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/soccer_redcard/2006/11/the_protected_p.html Chris Armas Chad Barrett (protected automatically as a Generation Adidas player) Jim Curtin Thiago Ivan Guerrero Andy Herron Justin Mapp Logan Pause Matt Pickens Dasan Robinson Chris Rolfe Gonzalo Segares Logan Pause is the most interesting name on the list, while Sanneh is the most noteable off of it. Nate Jaqua's contract expires on Dec. 31, and he will likely be looking at european clubs in the meantime (similar to Brian Carroll and Josh Wolff trialing for Bundesliga 2 teams right now ).
Plotkin and Carr jump out at me as being the most attractive of those left off. Personally if Im Toronto Carr is my choice.
Happy to be proven wrong, as I see Chicago's list is now posted here. I'll have to go hunt for Houston's list now.
To me, Clyde Simms and Adrian Serioux are two easy picks. I would also expect them to take a defender, possibly C.J. Brown, Mike Petke, or Avery John. Most if not all of the other picks will be developmental players, for their YI spots.
edson buddle, kreis, or kirovski up top isn't bad. I'd gamble with JOB as well. (based on talent only, i don't know how that whole salary thing works.) Gbandi and Regan are good young defenders. Toronto has a lot to pick from.
