Shame nobodies form for La Seleccion is ridiculous right now:rolleyes: Give the kid a break, I might be his biggest critic but he's shutting me up right now. Let him mature a bit more and you'll see.

It's not his time yet... C.Ronaldo's Champions League victory gives him the edge.

This year Messi and Argentina's gold at the Olympics is still more than what Ronaldo has been able to do with Portugal.

I LOVE MESSI, but I also accept that he hasn't played up to par on LA SELECCION. For Barca he's always been good.

Well those are 2 of the 3 main competitions he's played for Argentina. I'm not going to count the WC since he barely played there but he did do well the time he was on the pitch. The other is the WCQ's where he's ranged from very good to mediocre. But as Moishe said his form has corresponded with the form of the entire team so it's hard to hold that against him.

Ronaldo won the award (deservedly so) because he played a major part in helping Man Utd win the title and the champions league, so there is no problem with that. But their is no debate about who is the better player between Ronaldo and Messi, it's not even an issue, the only person who believes Ronaldo is better than Messi is Tesco, and in his heart of hearts he does not believe that himself. :D

Let Ronaldo have his day in the sun, it will be short lived as I think he may make a move soon to La Liga and with in 2 years he will just be a bit above average. Messi if he stays healthy could very well be the real deal for at least another 7 years!!

Right. It was logical that Ronaldo would win it this year. He had an outstanding season and Manu won the EPL and champions league.

Messi was hurt for some time, and Barcelona underachieved. It would not have made sense for Messi to have won it over Ronaldo under the circumstances.

It has nothing to do with their relative worth as players.

Great goal by Messi, he came in for some brutal treatment from Real Madrid, including one terrible tackle on him by Gago.

I think he showed class the other day by not losing his cool and played very well. He must be protected better by the refs though I found it appaling that Real got away with so many fouls.

Most of the tackles were terrible. As I posted elsewhere:

I think Barcelona has a lot to answer for. Take the game last night as the perfect example. They knew Messi was being targeted with some pretty bad treatment but they actively threw him to the wolves regardless. The team is crying out for an enforcer and if they need to sacrifice some of their attacking flair to achieve that then so be it. There is no point in having a great attacking game if it leads to one player being put out injured or worse. Credit to Messi for hobbling on and getting the last laugh.
