Municipal 0-0 Xelajú M.C. (HALF) Approximately 15k people at the Mateo Flores, very good pitch, rain. 6' MUN score but not given, offside. Nelson Morales injured in the play, subbed out a few min. later for Cifuentes. 8' 35m shot by Silva forces Penedo to send to corner. 13' Avila steals a ball and shoots wide diagonally, Loco screaming for the ball. MUN continues to generate attacks, several of which are conducted by Cheyo. 18' Oliva gets a ball 5m from goal but can't connect. 24' 25m FK by Quintanilla deflected just wide, corner not given. 30' combo between S. Morales and Arriola the best by Xela at that point. 33' best chance by MUN is blown by Oliva by blasting it high unmarked from 10m after López set him up perfectly with a header. A minute later a set piece finds Vides whose diving header on target is blocked. 38' after a MUN corner, Xela counters via Arriola to Morales to Silva whose 25m inswinging left foot shot hits the far post and goes wide with Penedo beaten. Both teams playing good football in spite of the rain, pitch holding up pretty well. 44' Loco excellent pass to Avila who leaves his marker and sets up Oliva who misses again alone vs Patterson, the GK making a great deflection and the ball hitting the crossbar; less than one minute later, Oliva again makes a run towards goal, shooting wide from 15m. I had rarely seen Municipal produce this sort of offense all season, let alone this tournament. They are however, not scoring on this one thus far, despite having 3-4 very clear ones. HT.

XEL attacks immediately after restart, bouncing header by Ruiz controlled by Penedo. MUN takes initiative again, win 3 crosses in first 5 min of 2H. Rain continues. 55' Samayoa carded, out of 2nd leg. 11' JJ Castillo head crosses to arc where Samayoa blasts it first touch on target forcing corner. Quintanilla, Oliva, and Loco all attempt shots, the latter 2 are blocked. 61' Abner Bonilla subbed in for Castillo. Chalo comes in as well 10 min later. MUN keeps trying but XEL containing them. 79' Arriola who switched flanks with Leal sends perfect cross to the latter who heads it high unmarked, best chance for Xela all game. 81' Vides sent off for late tackle on Silva who was escaping. 84' GOL Cheyo 1-0, soaring 35m FK slightly deflected past Patterson. 88' Loco deflects a cross to Avila who slams it to the near post and wide from close range. 90'+ dangerous play by XEL defender in area not seen by referee. Pretty good game, good pace, moderate stoppage, fair play. MUN should have won by at least 3 goals but failed to convert chances. The championship will be defined in Quetzaltenango Saturday night.

Xelajú M.C. Campeón Clausura 2012, they beat Municipal in PKs.

I couln't watch the return leg but i hear Municipal went back to a mediocre way of playing. Having Penedo sent off at the start of the game was a pretty big deal. Still, most will agree that Rojos lost the title in the first leg by not converting their many chances. Most people predicted that they needed to get a few goals difference at the Mateo Flores because Xela would surely beat them at home. And that's what defined it.
Congrats to Xela and the SuperChivos, fifth national title.

Guatemala will be represented at the next concachampions by 1. Xelajú MC. and 2. Municipal

Congratulations to JUVENTUD ESCUINTLECA (Formerly Deportivo Escuintla) and UNIVERSIDAD, the two promoted teams to the Liga Nacional for the 2012-13 Season. They will replace Zacapa and Juventud Retalteca. Cobán, a pretty good team, were in contention but will have to wait till next tourney to try and promote themselves back to top flight.

The 2012 Apertura tournament starts July 15 according to http://noticias.emisorasunidas.com/...ional/14-15-julio-inicia-nuevo-torneo-liguero (to coincide with the start of the Euro, good job at scheduling again  :D)

...So, I would like to propose a Prediction Contest for the Guatemalan Football league, starting this upcoming season, with a format along the lines of other Prediction Contests here at BigSoccer. What do you guys think?

Cool. Was thinking of awarding 1 point for correct result, + 1 point for correct score, to keep it simple and competitive, and also because of the random results we often see. What do you's think?

    Any other takers?

Very sad indeed, but i was reading one comment on the prensalibre, that it might be very good for him actually cause he was being benched at cremas for one half so he'll have more playing time in another club so he'll have more mins. So Cremas actually did him so good. But it makes sense, i mean if Moyo came back to Cremas, we want him to play more not just halfs so Ciani had to be sacrifised. Im sure Ciani will find another team, he has the talent.
Popol very good idea, lets do it.

As f'd up as it may be to just up and cut the kid, I hope Cremas try to loan him out abroad. If he's as good as you guys say getting him into a better league than ours would be a way to make up for the sudden cut.

With him saying he wants out of his contract with Comm that means there's bad blood. So I dont see them trying to offer him out of Guate. And if he does he'll probably pass on the offer just b/c he's pissed. Wherever he goes I hope this lights a fire under has a$$ and shows good enough play to get callled up to the NT or get an offer abroad on his own.

^What a mess of organization. Por eso estamos como estamos.

    ---

With regards to the prediction contest I suggested, since we are a few hours away from the start of the tournament and there are only 2 (3?) people interested, I think we're gonna have to call it off. I may not have time to do it either.

The goal of the week was by none other than 39-year old Milton "Tyson" Nuñez giving the U a temporary equalizer in San Marcos with a superb 25+ meter free kick [1:44]:

    Todavía sirve ese 0-te :D
