well there's already a tour de qatar, a tour d'oman, and in october a tour de pékin et chine... 2016 will probably go to berlin, but when you see the similarities beween ASO and FOA it's probably only a matter of time before we see intercontinentalization of the prologue.
Y'know, I think the guy/guys behind this are right (assuming it isn't some kind of bike nerd gag.) They ought to come up with a grey jersey for the over-35s. Give George or Jens a chance for a little more recognition. Hell, maybe Levi gets a chance to win something again.
I don't think anyone would be interested in winning it. The white jersey makes sense, because a lot of the guys under 26 are actually competing for the general classification and the young rider jersey is complimentary to that. The older guys are virtually all there to serve as domestiques or road captains, so a low overall time is not really what they're aiming for.
surprising perhaps, but in spite of the incredible physical stamina a GT requires, 35 year old pro cyclists are no rarity. consider that the white jersey is for under 26, an age at which a footballer is perhaps not a grizzled veteran but certainly no éspoir!
Grand Tours riders tend to peak in the 27-33 age bracket. There are some exceptions of course, but it's generally not been a young riders game to win them. At least not in the past few decades.
