2nd half, and Bastia pulling the miracle in that they are (1) winning (2) starting le Vanney once again and (3) have scored le 2 goals. Bastia up 2-0 in the 2nd half at home FYI- Bastia has only scored 1 goal in the last 4 games, 5 goals in the last 10 games, and only scored 2 goals in one other game this year.....
Sacre Blu! 2-0 FT, Vanney and Co. hang on to win http://soccernet.espn.go.com/match?id=169313&cc=5901
Vanney gets a 4 from l'Equipe, worst on the team. Which doesn't make sense, how can a defender get a 4 when the opposing team doesn't score? N. PENNETEAU (c) 6 P. CHIMBONDA 6 D. SAUGET (86e) A. YAHIA 4.5 G. VANNEY 4 S. PIOCELLE 5.5 P. ESSOLA (74e) F. JAU 4.5 Y. HADJI 5.5 A. SONG BILLONG 6.5 D. SIDIBE 6 P. ANDRE 6 H. CONOMBO (80e) T. VAIRELLES 6
I can explain this. After having lived for almost 5 years in France I've realized that they didn't lose possession of their own country in WWII because they were cowards as if often purported. They lost it because they are fvcking stupid. This also answers your question.
I can explain this. After enduring 50 some years of reading about how they are "cowards" whereas Holland, which fell in about twelve minutes, Belgium, which fell in about twelve hours, Czechoslovakia etc. etc. were just poor helpless victims of naked German agression and then having read about freedom fries - which made them laugh until their sides hurt - they decided to gain their revenge with a carefully thought out, sinister and secret plan to deprive all the Americans playing in the Champ of critical rating points. Sadly, all of this evil plan is enacted on Vanney, as he is the only American playing there currently. Or, of course, they could simply have read the posts on BS after the Panama game and, knowing the high football acumen of BS posters, figured that Vanney must, indeed, suck even worse than Regis (if such a thing were possible, but of course, we of the BSland know better) and thus find it impossible to give him more than a 4.
You know, I have a friend living there right now...has been for 3 years now... She says the exact same thing, go figure...
Might be because he gives them a glaring opportunity to score? Although the speculation was fun, especially since French Fries are actually from Belgium, IIRC.
Not sure it was clear in my previous post, but the stuff in French is from an actual game report - Vanney apparently goofed on the backline. It didn't cost the team, but it could have.
Poor Greg. Turns out he was sick during the game. Kicker scores have no pity for illness. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=317922&cc=5901
