Saw on MlS Matchday article "Building the Soccer Pyramid. Aspiring markets face a choice between" a link to remarks by the NASL commissioner. Said he talk to ownership groups in Vegas
Somebody is always in talks with Vegas ownership groups. Link? There's absolutely nothing mentioned in the article you named. The only linked articles are weeks old anyway.
In the fifth or sixth paragraph there is a highlighted sentence. It says " Peterson told reporters two weeks ago" click on that. It takes you to the article
" We have evaluated ownerships groups in Las Vegas. We’re not currently speaking with anyone very seriously there." So a two week old article about how there's no real NASL push in Vegas? In a MLS forum? You should write for MLSsoccer.com. Though you should work on citing sources first.
I see you're unfamiliar with his work. Someone mentions Las Vegas = "Las Vegas is totally getting a team." No one mentions Las Vegas = "It's only a matter of time before someone mentions Las Vegas, and that means Las Vegas is totally getting a team." "We’re not currently speaking with anyone very seriously there." = "They did talk to somebody there, and that means Las Vegas is totally getting a team." Next month will be five years on this pipe dream of a thread ("DC and Columbus are about to lose their teams!"). Looking back at some of the original responses, it shows how little some people learn over time.
Vegas keeps getting mentioned. They never say yes we're coming in the early stages of negotiations ...... Trolls
The thread is called "Las Vegas is viable" not "Las Vegas is getting a one-sentence blurb every couple months that further indicates MLS in Vegas isn't happening."
The Mayor Goldman of Las Vegas supports bring a soccer team to town. She is friends with the USL Pro people. So she would rather have them.
Found this on Reddit. Mayor Carolyn Goodman just announced at #CollisionConf Major League Soccer is in the works for #Vegas #MLS— Jason Smylie (@capriottisjason) May 14, 2014 I doubt anything will come of this, but we'll see I guess.
I've been watching these as well. Looks like the current proposal is for the city to fund the stadium and for Findlay Sports and Entertainment and the Cordish Companies to run the team. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/55176234/ns/local_news-las_vegas_nv/#.U3Pmw4FdWgY Findlay sports is owned by the same family who runs Findlay Toyota. The Cordish Companies is a large entertainment development and management company. I think getting the stadium on the taxpayer dime would be difficult. But this is Vegas, so who knows. This seems like the strongest group of potential Las Vegas investors we've seen yet.
Tough in the current climate but a project downtown might be a game changer because improvements to that area being planned by the city and private enterprise. It would be cool to see a strong local business not really that connected to the casinos leading the charge. I would love it if we could get a spot downtown, for me that would be ideal, better than on a college campus. With all the money that's going into the area, the demographics, logistics and Zappos investing in start ups it could be a really good move. A lot of Las Vegas citizens are moving more north anyways and it's less of a hassle driving there for a lot of people than to UNLV.
“We recently met with Justin Findlay and Blake Cordish at the MLS League office in New York and were very impressed with their vision to pursue building a new soccer stadium and acquiring an MLS expansion club for Las Vegas,” MLS Deputy Commissioner and President Mark Abbott said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing discussions as they work to further develop their plans with Mayor Goodman and the City of Las Vegas.” http://lasvegassun.com/news/2014/may/14/las-vegas-could-get-mls-team-soccer-specific-stadi/
