Another way of looking at it:
At this stage, we pretty much know that the Premier League's CL qualifiers for next season will likely come from five sides: Chelsea, Liverpool, ManU, Arsenal and Spurs.
After Barca and Real, La Liga's final two CL qualifiers aren't as easy to choose. Valencia likely. 4th spot is open to a number of clubs.

Competetion? there was only one team that could have won the league last year in spain and only 2 this year, although in the premiership Manchester United made a late come back last year and also 4 teams that could win the title this year

Osasuna were also FIRST for the first half of the season and were much better than Madrid and Valencia but they dropped off towards the end of the year.

This year, we have to face it, there is only one team with a shot of winning it, and that is Barcelona. hehe

Real Madrid have as good a chance as Atletico Madrid or Valencia. Maybe even less.

Atletico's lineup is MUCH better than Madrid's at the moment. So is Valencia's. If Atletico can get some sort of consitency with the AMAZING squad they have, they good give Barca a run for their money.

But of course Barcelona are going to walk it again this year.

    So are Chelsea.

    Totally agree with u

Madrid in terms of quality, are a little bit Bellow Atletico, and I also think, Seville and Villareal which is impressive the way they have reinforced them selves,

Just to add one thing, Deportivo are signing all the youth promises in La Liga, and I think that they have a Great opportunity to go for the tittle, no team has the amount of Underground promises they have, !

La Liga supporters should be aware that we could lose a team before the CL group stages begin as Osasuna have a very tough tie against Hamburg. Losing to HSV would no doubt have the Premiership supporters bumping this thread ad nauseum, but in reality it would be no disgrace. ;)

there wasnt a title race either in the prem last year either, there was a shorter point difference between barca, madrid and valencia than there was between chelsea, man u and liverpool.

and are you seriously telling me anybody else but chelsea are going to win it this year?

Actually there was quite a title race last season, once Barca pulled away and got themselves a comfortable lead it fell to a 2nd place race, 2nd through 5th place is seperated by 2 points. Similiar to the one point between ManU and Liverpool and the one dish of lasagna between Arsenal and Spurs.

And you are correct to assume Barca will probably win it this year but I wouldn't bet too much on Real Madrid making second.

la liga is such a great league in terms of players (a lot of world class players) and in terms of teams.

also since the start of the PL 4 different teams have won the PL and in that same time 5 different teams have won the la liga and people say its a barca and madrid dominated league? if anything the prem is more ONE-SIDED.

and the la liga has dominated so much this decade in europe especially the CL its unreal.

    champions league this decade:

    la liga:

european champions: 3 (madrid TWICE, barca ONCE)
    european runner-ups: 2 (valencia TWICE)

    prem:

    european champions: 1 (liverpool)
    european runner-ups: 1 (arsenal)

    quite a big difference!

why has the prem been so poor in the CL this decade?

Yeah i think it is highly unlikely Chelsea will win it next year because there are toooo many big egos and want to all play next year and no-one would like to be in that dressing room. And as Arsenal proved toinght we, Man Ure and Liverpool are all great "Contenders".

I still prefer the premiership to la liga and serie a etc. but that's probably because I live in England and watch it every week.

where is this quality teams apparantly the prem possesses? why have they been so abysmal this decade (noughties) in the champions league then?
