A little late considering it's tonight. But the Galaxy are coming down LA and the Xolos coming up from Tijuana to play at Torero Stadium tonight (3/2) at 7:05 pm. Last I'd heard tickets were still available online at the link below or at the Jenny Craig Pavilion over at USD. But they are close to sell out so get your tickets soon. http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?agency=TDC&pid=6957111
Oh and if you can't go it's apparently going to be on internet radio on the Galaxy's website. That said though, GO XOLOS!
Well I suppose it's better than him saying, "I hate San Diego and wish I weren't playing there..." Still given that he doesn't even want to be here right now I doubt he's really that enthused to be here.
It's probably a product of his ability to be a good ambassador and to say the right things. Still, it's nice to hear.
True, I'm just being an ass in all honesty which is my duty as a sworn enemy of that team in Los Angeles...
I just think it's cool that he said he's been there before. He probably took the kids to the Zoo or something. It's just weird picturing him in San Diego!
Well it was a great game. The better team definitely won even if it was on PK's. The Galaxy looked slow and the Xolos, even playing a fair number of their second stringers, just looked much more match fit. It was nice to see some live soccer at a high level in San Diego. Also props to USD for hosting, Torero Stadium really is a pleasant place to see a game even if not designed specifically for soccer. Props to the Xolos. Loved seeing our closest team in person for the first time. And based on the crowd they definitely deserved the "home" team title. Hopefully they make a habit of coming north for exhibitions.
Here's the UT's take on the game. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/mar/02/xolos-beat-beckham-galaxy-penalty-shootout-usd/
http://www.xolos.us/tickets.html Looks like this was just the beginning of the Xolos push to try and appeal to more people north of the border. They've got an English site now and a nice arrangement for fans who want to go south without some of the usual hasseles and risks of going south on your own.
That's a cool looking stadium. They're planning on expanding it too right? I think it'll seat around 30K or so from what I remember hearing.
I think they're aiming for a 33,333 capacity when it's all said and done. They're supposedly adding a second deck right now in anticipation of joining the first division and recently completed closing in the original stadium's horseshoe.
