Strange that the forum has been quiet the last 24-36 hours. I guess Zinsy or Robert or Patrick (Oldnani) has no more information they'd like to share with us. Maybe it's because they never really had any "true" information to begin with.

If the information they have posted the past few weeks IS true, why hasn't something been announced yet? If not from the league, then from the Steamers? It's pretty simple. They probably know right now if the Steamers are coming back. Meetings have taken place, but no one in the St. Louis media seems to know anything. Either that, or they just don't care.

sigh.....why are you so interested if deleted (the name BigSoccer has given me for some reason) or zinsy! post anything at all? i thought you (and many others) hated "rumors" (i.e. truths) ...so i stopped.....as far as being quiet the last 24-36 hours, maybe if you paid attention to current events (or stepped outside if you are from St. Louis) you'd notice that 500,000 people are without electricity in the St. Louis area due to the two massive storms/tornado that ripped through here....i was busy helping others.....but if you'd have also paid attention to just this list alone, you'd have noticed that i already decided to stop banging my head against the wall and i refuse to give any more information......also, i never said that it was an irreversible fact that the Steamers were finished...all i said was that Hetelson was stripped of the franchise by the league...and that is true....several others have confirmed that....is Hetelson back with the team in some capacity?...is the team saved? i really don't know...YOU tell us...i already said that the league REALLY wanted a team here in St. Louis, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Ryan got off his fat ass and helped save them somehow (too bad he didn't do the same for Cleveland, Dallas, Kansas City, etc.)..but it wouldn't surprise if they just threw in the towel...it's kind of an uphill climb to find investors willing to gamble on such a declining sport and such a disgracefully operated league...due to the problems here (National Guard is here helping people and protecting businesses from being looted) you'll forgive me if i haven't had the time nor the desire to find out anything about the Steamers or the MISL....it's funny that you would ask "why hasn't anything been announced yet?"...ISN'T THAT WHAT I'VE BEEN BITCHING ABOUT THIS WHOLE TIME !??? ...NOBODY KNOWS IF THE STEAMERS ARE COMING BACK OR NOT...THIS IS WHY I HAVE REPORTED WHAT I KNOW...TO GIVE PEOPLE SOMEWHAT OF AN IDEA...BECAUSE THE LEAGUE AND THE TEAM HAVEN'T ANNOUNCED ANYTHING EXCEPT THAT THEY CANCELLED CAMPS FOR THE SUMMER AND THAT THEY LOST FARIAS TO DETROIT...

when you said "either that or they just don't care" did you mean zinsy!, the media, Robert, Patrick,or St. Louis in general....i can only speak for myself, and it's obvious that i care or wouldn't waste my time on these stupid boards having silly disputes with people that i don't know or care to know...as far as the media and st. louis in general..the media's lack of coverage and the lack of fans makes the answer pretty obvious...

as far as a Robert or Patrick Oldani go....i know several Roberts (and Bobs) it's a pretty common name...you'll have to do better than that...but what does that have to do with me anyway?...and Patrick Oldani seems like a good guy...i had the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of occasions at the Family Arena, and the Savvis Center...i don't think that i have ever so much as exchanged phone numbers with the man...but again, what does that have to do with me?...and why do some of you insist on making wild guesses as to who i am?..do you somehow hope that it will be easier to refute what i have said if you know my identity?? it still wouldn't change the fact that i know several people who DO KNOW things..and when i feel like finding out things, i will...let it go..it just doesn't matter anyway boys..

so "scoop" do us all a favor..YOU put your little investigative reporter's hat on..grab your little pen and notebook, and put on your "Hello my name is: SCOOP" sticker and hit the pavement...maybe YOU can tell us all the big mystery...(ohhhhhh i'm in such suspense!)....all the secretive crap the league pulls is getting old...like i said before, i've never seen a minor sports league (that's in such dire need of fans) actually make it difficult for their small legion of fans to actually like them and want to follow and support them...if this league doesn't want to make us feel welcome, and a part of "something" then some of us need to reconsider the point of it all? am i paying money for sports entertainment that i can feel a connection to, or am i just here to line Steve Ryan's pockets ?...you know, i can turn a blind eye to being screwed sometimes but at least have the decency to whisper sweet nothings in my ear and stroke me a little to at least make me feel wanted...if you get my drift.....now, enough of this idle chit-chat...i'm off to clean up my back-yard..anyone want to help me remove a tree off my fence? change my oil? walk my dog?...i didn't think so....ta-ta!

Scoop: Zinsy wants you to beg before he shares his rumors with you. He was challenged a few times and took his ball and went home.

incorrect sir...i just don't see the point anymore...whatever is going to happen is going to happen...i don't have the money to save the team nor do i know anyone who does..my info or posts don't mean a thing at this point...and i have more pressing concerns at the moment..like cleaning the debris and trash off of my fence and out of my yard, repairing part of my roof, and dealing with crabby and overworked insurance people...the whole while dealing with a dog and two kids who need my attention also...i hope the Steamers and the MISL survive, but if they don't there isn't much that anyone can do...

One wild rumor I heard today was that Hetelson is finished with the Steamers. He'll take a year off and then become a partner with the Orlando group. That came from an MISL referee in the St. Louis area who claims he knows what's going on. I seriously doubt any of that. I truely believe that Hetelson wants to stay involved with the Steamers and is trying very hard to find help.

What ever happed to Hetelson's partner? I remember that he had one when he first appeared.

What's going on with the Detroit Wheels or whatever they are called?

Hetelson won't be involved with the Steamers. Just think about it for one minute. Why would a new investor want to partner with someone who has lost $3-$4 million over the last 2 seasons. How would Hetelson sell himself as being needed by the new owner. It will eaither be a totally new group or else there will be no Steamers. At this point it is 50-50 whether there is a team. As league has always done, if there is not going to be a team, the league will wait until the last minute to announce there is no team and then will scramble to had a dispursal draft. I would guess the timeline for anouncement is within the next 20-30 days.

Wally Smerconish only lasted a few months before he stopped putting money into the franchise. Depending on how you look at it, he was a villain for getting out so soon or a genius for cutting his losses when he did.

Hetelson supported the Steamers on his own for the majority of the time he's owned it. He probably should have closed the doors after the 2004-05 season, but he stuck it out one more year. It is accurate to say there would not have been soccer in St. Louis the past two seasons without him.

After the 2004-05 season, Hetelson had a commitment from new investors, but they never came through as promised.

a very well thought out and truthful post.

Well this point I disagree with. The timeline for the announcement will be.....
A/ when MISL tries to call the Steamers only to find the phones' been disconnected and the check for the league dues never shows up.

B/ About 7-8 days before the season starts the league will come out with a schedule showing St. Louis, this will be to fool/accidently-on-purpose/trick/bluff the other owners that it isn't all doom and gloom in Missouri.

C/ Then about 3 days before the opening games and teams have printed tickets, published schedules, booked hotels, booked flights the league will come out with something like this..................

"it is with great sadness that the Major Indoor Soccer League announces the St. Louis Steamers will not participate in the upcoming season, the team will take a one-year hiatus to re-organize. The Major Indoor Soccer League is the premiere indoor soccer league in the USA, plans to expand to Orlando and Newark are shaping up well, also the Kansas City Comets and St. Louis Steamers will be back for fast, exciting, affordable family fun."

For what it's worth, Hetelson and Smerconish were sitting together at the Steamers playoff game in Baltimore.

Smerconish was at a few games this past season, but just as a fan. He was finished with the financial help in December 2004. Hetelson was suppose to get some financial help from Don Kincaid, but that never happened. Kincaid was the reason Zoran Savic was working in St. Louis.

And by the way, Savic does not have any investors lined up for the Steamers as it has been stated on this forum before.

However, don't put it past the MISL to find a new owner for the Steamers.

ok...this is a forum about FRANK KLOPAS. I know there are S's and L's and other letters that appear both in the city name of St. Louis and in Hetelson, but lets get another forum going.

Even though the Steamers are set still be in the league this upcoming season.;)

From the Sunday Fire article in the Chicago Sun-Times:

Klopas had been coach of the Storm, Chicago's franchise in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He revealed that he won't return to that post. While the Storm made no announcement, Klopas said that he is leaving with one year left on his three-year contract.

"I've accomplished what I needed to there,'' Klopas said. "Now I want to focus on my main goal of coaching in Major League Soccer.''

The Storm's website contains an announcement today stating that Klopas and the team are parting ways. The article says that the team is looking for a coach who can lead the team to a title but also for someone who will be involved in promoting the team. I wonder if the Storm management felt that Klopas's efforts were lacking in that regard.

I think they wanted someone to work more than 20 hrs a week.
Do more than coach practice & games. Plus (like all other teams) with cutbacks they probably needed to get rid of
    high salary people.

Article notes (again) that Klopas helped Mather High School win a state title. Nice - but Mather never won an IL state soccer title. I belive they won the Chicago Public League championship...... Typical of soccer reporting.

Do papers hire fact checkers anymore?

    End semi-rant.

Will miss Frank - neat to have a guy who played for the Sting and the Fire coach the Storm.

actually, she just got bored with some of the jerks and their insulting remarks on these boards...she stopped posting before Mr. Klopas parted ways with the Storm..

I wonder what happened. Him and Victor have been friends for a long time. Have they parted ways also?

I think Frank knows there isn't much future coaching indoors. He wants to get an MLS job.

Then he shouldn't have turned down Bradley's offer. That was his foot in the door.

Exactly , she was done with the board long before it became clear that Frank was not coming back.
Is it time we start questioning Brian Loftin???? Lot of good people left the Storm in the time since he has been there.

Frank had another year on his deal but wanted an out if the MLS came a callin'. I think that Loftin has done a great job so far. He has put his people in place, look at all the new hires! Only time will tell. If this team is run like the Wave I will be happy. As much as I have hated the Wave through the years you have to admit that they are fan friendly and have stuck around a long time. The camps are even booming for them right now. Come November we will see if Brian has made the right moves, but until them you have to give the guy credit...the Storm has a new home, the camps are doing well, players have been signed long term, front office positions have been added and filled, etc... The Storm has easily been the most active team in the league this off season with good news for a change.

    Go Storm!!!
