Lots of serious accusations that if only half of them are true, means TFC is in for another rough, rough season. Ouch. Would love to hear what this guy has to say about Montreal and Chivas (just for the entertainment value).
Whatever you think of him, even a half-brain dead Kevin Payne is roughly 1000 per cent better than anyone TFC have ever had in charge. Payne might be an megalomaniacal, egotistical dictator–and Toronto certainly could have done better–but at least he knows how to tie his shoes.
Looks like website problems. Likely back up soon enough. The iTunes page still works: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-big-question/id552277216
Just following up on the above, it's all back up and running: http://nasn.tv/2013/the-big-question-episode-14/
Can someone highlight the minutes when Payne got slammed? I listened at the 19 minute mark for several minutes and didn't catch it.
Basically every few minutes from minute 19 through the end. Main times noted here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...e-purge-of-2012.1978774/page-17#post-27039691
The worst accusation to me is that Toronto had Payne foisted on them (by whom?) while they were in the process of searching for a GM. This accusation is completely unsourced. If true, and I have very serious reservations of veracity, it would show a level of meddling in the affairs of Member Clubs that puts the whole single-entity experiment in doubt. Or, given the long-running comedy routine which is the Toronto Front Office, maybe MLS decided they needed to put somebody in charge who could, in theory, actually do something positive for that team.
I find most of what was reported on the pod-cast believable but I have a hard time buying this one. Who stands to benefit from this? Why is Payne owed a favor? Who has such influence over TFC that they would use it to pressure them to hire Payne? I've heard he had sweat equity in DCU from the initial investment group but is it not so much that he'd be able to use it to get MLS to pressure another team to get him a new gig? Seems awfully murky.
The whole thing is. What is interesting is the picture coming together of a consensus about this information, that otherwise were like whisperers.
that was a short reign in Toronto. http://www.thestar.com/sports/tfc/2..._ways_with_presidentgm_kevin_payne_kelly.html
Full of wild promises and unfulfilled signings - and they've left Nelsen in charge of the squad as a lame duck.
