In a sport often ruled by innuendo, personal perception, and incomplete knowledge, Kenny might be wise to find representation that is not related to him.
The funniest part is when you remember who used to pop off in the FCD forum the most about Ramoncito.
What else is hilarious is Ramon's dad's enemy #1 was always Ronnie O'Brien and now ROB plays indoor around the metroplex and Ramon is headed to the World Cup.
I don't see anything wrong with going where you are going to play. The time to shine is now if Coop wants to make the US squad.
No manager at any club will EVER be concerned about ANY players playing time because of national team interests.....EVER.....for confirmation see SAF's treatment of Wayne Rooney....the guy plays EVERY game....nearly ALWAYS goes 90 minutes....pisses off Capello no end....and Fergie does'nt give a fcuk....
Agree, Plymouth isn't a bad place to go. Struggling team, but very thin at forward with two coaches in Paul Mariner and Jon Carver who know exactly what they've got with him already. Just unfortunate to hear the circumstances about which this came out. I don't want to speculate or tell anyone what to do, but if Kenny's dad isn't his agent, then Kenny Jr. has to step up and tell his dad that he can handle himself and if he wants to move where he's going to get playing time then go about it in the right way and tell the manager himself. Truly hope that this all works out for Kenny though chances of 2010 are really slim, 2014 is not out the window at all at just 25 years old...hell Cunningham has a shot at the World Cup this year and he's an old man. Just work as hard as you can and don't worry about anything else.
As a staunch Bob Bradley defender, if Cunningham makes the team after his performance last week against Honduras, I'll join the "fire Bob" bandwagon. Cunningham isn't making this team. He's proven that as soon as the quality of the defenders rises above typical MLS level, he's completely de-fanged....
Please don't tell me you're actually judging a forward by 45 minutes where his team was down to ten men and he was passed the ball maybe once or twice the entire half. By the way, we barely have a true forward on the rosters that has proven he can score at a higher level than MLS. Jozy has like one club team goal in the last two years.
I have always played with the Pilgrims on FIFA. Godd luck to him. He has to be happy to be in England, I would think.
Never been lucky enough to attend a Championship match, I'm not 100% certain, but having been to plenty of 2 Bundesliga matches, I would say a loan from 1860 Munich to Plymouth Argyle is a step up in quality. Perhaps not in quality of squad, (I think 1860 Munich would compete just fine in the Championship) but certainly quality of competition...
I'd definitely agree with this. The Championship is very uneven in terms of quality. You've got clubs who are definitely Premier League clubs in waiting (especially if they are perennial Premier League clubs who slipped up... like Newcastle). I went to a Fulham-Blackburn match when both teams were in the division in 2000 -- then it was called Division 1 -- and it was a high-quality match and I believe both teams went up to the Premier League next season. Meanwhile, you've got some absolute dross down at the bottom... like Plymouth Argyle. Good luck to Kenny, but so far, he's more or less validating HSG's decision to not make him a DP. (No, I don't believe that they wanted to, but that MLS wouldn't let them.)
Name a US player not named Landon Donovan who would receive DP money? Wait a second, is Donovan getting DP money? Even Schelotto doesn't get DP money does he? Besides, what kind of determination can you make about Cooper in any league from 12 games in Germany before being injured and no games yet at Plymouth? The man can make the US World Cup team if he gets hot - all he has to do is beat out Conor Casey and The Big Aloha.
last year Schelotto was 650k base and 775k guaranteed. Donovan was 900k for both. These numbers are from MLS Players Union reported in March 2009. I have to agree with the other comments. I think the Championship as a whole is better than 2.Bundesliga, but at the same time 1860 to Plymouth is a step down in terms of team. It seems like a good move for Kenny, he'll get minutes and he can try again in Germany later. And while it would be nice to still watch Kenny play for FCD, I agree FCD made the right choice.
Clint Dempsey. He's even a local! He gets that amount of money, but he doesn't count as a DP, because he's still grandfathered into the "DP money but not DP" status that Ruiz and EJ were formerly in. Indeed he does. I said before he left that he wasn't worth the DP money and DP slot. He's very flawed as a player, not a game-changer, and a marginal member of the national team. His overseas career has been unimpressive. His starpower doesn't sell any tickets. About the only present or past DP to whom he compares favorably in what he brings to the table, on and off the field, is Denilson. Is he worth well more than what he was paid? Sure. If we're talking about $200-250k, I'm down with it. But was he worth DP money? Not then, and not now. He's more or less a taller version of Jason Kreis.
According to the fans (search for "cooper" in the "Argyle Discussion - Main Discussion Board" forum), he's not even making the bench and is either ... 1) Awful and an incredibly overpaid mistake on Mariner's part, or ... 2) Still injured/unfit and an incredibly overpaid mistake on Mariner's part and as they're in a relegation fight, they've got no sympathy either way. He does have one cheerleader in there but that guy joined in Jan and has 9 posts, 7 advocating for Cooper to start as half of what would be the best strikeforce tandem in the CCC, alongside Shaun Wright-Philip's little brother, Bradley.
it's nice to see Kenny Cooper Sr finally signed up for an account on bigsoccer.com Either that or Mike Renshaw created a second account....
