Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Amen! Amen! Thank you, Chico! Apparently I cannot rep Chico for this. Can someone cover me?
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I repped for ya Hunter. I was just trying to figure if there was something more then bring out the idea so we can do it. At any rate I hope to have the pleasure of meeting the rest of ya at the march.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? How about "Tell us again, Tell us again, Liar Liar" to hit'em again And just plain easy. "If you build it we will come!"
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? One of the main points of the march is to keep the message positive. No FU Fenty's or negative signs or banners. The message has to be positive.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Just got some press coverage on the march from Goff on his blog.....
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? No obscenities is a good rule but we shouldn't just forget everything that's happened to stadium efforts over the past few years. We are definitely trying to put pressure on the political decision makers that can influence whether or not a stadium is built or even if RFK receives any maintenance. The banner quoting Fenty that getting a stadium for DC United at Poplar Point would be "a priority" for his administration should be at any march. As long as the quote is accurate it should be acceptable at a rally/march.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Yea that's fine, as long as it doesn't turn into an anti-Fenty pissing match. That would be counter-productive.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? What is the latest on this march? 11 pages are a lot to browse through. I've been absolutely gutted with the stadium news since last week. I'm itching to show everyone my support for the black and red.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Nothing to report until we meet with the team. Hopefully that will happen in the next few days.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? If we want as many people as possible, maybe the team could find some tickets that could be handed out to folks who want to participate. "Sign the petition and join the march to RFK and get in free". Something like that.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I think that undermines the credibility of the marchers, personally
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Agree. I think incentives are a good idea in general. But not from the team. And definitely not for tickets. Then again, are we fools for thinking credibility is important anymore? Lots of things happen on TV with no credibility whatsoever.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? FSC I'm sure would love to do something on the March as part of their pregame show.....
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I will be there and will take part. i can bring a bunch of people. One thing that might make this much easier logistics wise is to have a plan that allows people to come early, park at RFK, then walk or take a Metro down to the part and then march back. I also think that some of the kids Club teams could march just like they do at RFK before games. I don't see any reason why they couldn't start there march there. Also, it seem the Ward 8 folks could help - They have been supportive and as somebody mentioned having Marion Barry in the march would really up the visibility.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Actually, Seattle Sounders started a traddition from day one where they gather at a square before the game and March to the Stadium. Heck, I don't see why if the distance isn't too great to make this a United traddition to get our stadium. Just a thought.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I would not do that. It would make it seem as if the march was contrived and not based on people who are really commited to the cause.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? It's just an idea, although not much less contrived than having a bunch of Toronto fans join in. WTF do they care if we get a stadium and how relevant is that to the effort. Besides, DC is used to people getting freebies to support a political agenda!
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Has anyone contacted Marion Barry's office yet? What other council members supported the Poplar Point stadium? If they joined the march, they would add clout and a different aspect of news coverage.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Nothing has been done, no one's been contacted, no date has been set, no banners have been made and it will stay that way until there is a meeting with the FO. Hopefully that will happen in the next couple of days....
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? When you guys have this organzied and have a some promotional text written up, send it to either Steven[blahblahblah]worldsoccerdaily.com or Kenny at the same address. I'm sure they'll be very sympathetic and supportive.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Hey those lumberjacks are always committed to a cause that has beer at the end of the journey...... As several folks from other areas chimed in, even though we may be rivals on the field and stands when it comes to moving soccer and MLS forward we are all on the same team.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I would agree with the above post if it involved any team other than Toronto. We could ask, but we should not expect much from the TFC bunch! As soon as we get word from the SG and front office meeting, we need to put everything in overdrive and promote like crazy. We all need to do our part for the love of United. 5000 people supporting our cause would be awesome, I don't see why we can't do it? We just can't expect people to show up, its up to us to get the people there. Here is a banner that I think would be nice.. Macfarland? Fenty? CAN WE HELP? "All we are saying is keep our team Here" "All we are saying is keep our team Here"
