Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I don't think we can wait for the perfect time/game. We have to act relatively quickly while all of this is in the current news cycle. Debug123 suggestion of May 2nd is good. Just enough time to organize and get a good turnout.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Are we married to the May 2nd date already? May 9th would give a little more time for publicity and planning
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Seems to me we've lost out on this MD legislative cycle and are anyway hardly married to MD, so therefore our plans are not all that time sensitive. If we can organize a better march on the 9th, we probably oughta do that.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? The heads of the sg's will be meeting with either Kevin Payne or Steve Zack this week and we'll hammer out the details including date.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Scott, one of the Barra's MPD officers said he would look into the permit issue on Monday morning.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I'm interested, and may try to make this game I attend in May. Just curious, how long would this march be?
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? cross posted from the barra board start somewhere other than lincoln park.....the people who live there doesnt give a shit one way or another....if we want to make a stand and really show something i hate to say this but we should march over to poplar point and anacostia to show dc council that we could do over there....even grab a drink in one of the bars there (yeah itll be wierd, but better than the people on the hill who really dont care, trust me i live there) and on top of that poplar point is STILL vacant with Clark backing out....just sayin
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? lincoln park is 1 mile from RFK - even us fat guys can do this. Here's a link. I'll work on getting a wagon to cart a cooler. FYI. Parking off a OK ave is usually open much before other parking because of the park there.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I am no expert, but I do work in communications and they do pay me for it so I can't be that bad at it... I am happy to lend assistance.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I'm in and marching with either my son or daughter. I'll spread the word at my work -- couple of DCU fans there, including one I hooked up with my Galaxatives tickets last June when I was out of town. This is a great idea, we just need to make sure we have a large turnout. Season ticket holders better be there.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? May 2nd would be better because that is a nationally televised game. I would suggest that DCU either let a handful of fans bring a pro-stadium banner out of the tunnel just before the teams enter, or at the ceremonial kick-off have Jaime or Ben "kick-off" to a group holding a pro-stadium banner. That will get national TV exposure.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? I've been looking for a way to show my support beyond some short-notice, ill-conceived email campaign. I'm in for the march. I'll make sure this is the game in May that I can make.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Ugh. This is uncomfortable and inconvenient and unlikely to change anything... and yet, on the slim chance that it DOES make a difference... OK, I'll be there.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? If it is May 2nd I can't do it but May 9th sounds enticing. I would love to take part in it.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Ok, my whole thought on May 9 v. May 2 goes like this. May 2 sounds good. We have national tv coverage, but this is not a marquee match up. Additionally, will FSC cover any of our actions that day. Will they add any local flavor to our plight. And really, will a LA, Dallas, or Seattle fan even care? FSC is also on a national timeline. Don't get me wrong, I like FSC's coverage, but they may not be willing to give us the attention we would like to recieve from our actions. May 9th will be a game televised on Comcast Sports Net. This gives us the coverage where we need it to be. Right here. Is it possible they can give us the time during coverage to talk about our situation? We are also playing Toronto. I am actually hoping they bring a strong group of fans down with the team. This can show that we are also bringing in some really far outside dollars to the District. Thats my thougths on it, but like I said, we will show up any day you ask.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Can we get Barry in his DCU track suit to lead off the parade? The media would sure to come. I'm sure someone knows someone who knows someone...
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? We need a list of the supportive council members. They need invitations as soon as we settle on a date. Then we need their constituents calling and encouraging them to attend. Even if it's just for the photo op. Who knows of supportive councilmembers, aside from Barry?
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Perhaps we could even ask the TFC supporters to join us for the march. I know it goes completely against the "Ultra" mentality to march with the enemy, but it would present a more favorable image to the DC Council.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? The "ultras mentality" stops when a team is threatened. An attack on one is an attack on all.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Great idea! I think Toronto would be totally into doing that. And it would add another 50-100 people to the march.
Re: Keep United in DC March MAY 2? Whenever you decide to do this.... Good luck guys. Here's hoping you get a great turnout.
